Aori Studio creates unique jackets made from vintage Kantha blankets, around 80 years old. Kantha is a traditional Indian textile: rural women used to stitch together recycled cotton pieces to make warm blankets. Because both sides of the blanket are different, each jacket is one of a kind and fully reversible.
When Jeanne, the founder of Aori Studio, first discovered these textiles, she was completely blown away by their beauty. She immediately felt their potential to become wearable art. She designed two timeless shapes: a short version and a longer version. Both are one-size, made to fit many body types, with the longer version adapted for larger sizes.
The jackets are handcrafted in close collaboration with two female artisans in Jaipur (Rajasthan). Heena and Agrima are specialised in hand embroidery and natural plant dyeing, discover the atelier here.
Aori Studio offers both versatile ready-to-wear jackets and the option to have a personalised jacket made to measure. Each jacket tells a story, woven with craftsmanship and cultural history. Go to Aori Studio’s Instagram page to explore the collections, pop-ups, and exhibitions.
