WORKING CONDITIONS & WAGES
AORI Studios produces in Jaipur (India) and Belgium. In India, Jeanne works closely with Heena and Agrima, two designers who run their own studio in central Jaipur. The jackets are handmade there in small batches, giving them an artisan character.
The collaboration with Jaipur entails certain risks, such as issues related to labour rights, wages, and supply-chain transparency, which can be difficult to control in India. AORI Studios addresses these risks through regular personal visits to ensure that working conditions are ethical and fair.
The studio operates as a family business, which contributes to transparency and consistent quality.
MATERIALS
- Kanta fabrics (cotton)
The Kanta fabrics used by AORI Studios consist of cotton made from reused textile scraps. This makes them particularly resource-efficient, as no new fibres need to be produced and existing materials are given a second life.
The jackets are made from very old quilts, many of which are around 60 years old. According to the brand, they were originally created by women in rural India from collected cotton scraps to stay warm during winter. Jeanne values the transmission of craftsmanship, care, and women’s energy that continues to live on in the jackets.
PACKAGING
- The brand uses reused shoe boxes and plans to switch to paper boxes in the future.
- Within the supply chain, goods are packed into boxes and shipped to Brussels.
WATER USAGE & CHEMICALS
AORI Studios uses handcrafted Kanta fabrics made from old cotton, significantly reducing the need for virgin resources and water consumption. Since the textiles are reused, processes such as dyeing, printing, or bleaching, which typically involve chemical inputs and high water usage, are avoided.
CIRCULAR PRODUCT DESIGN
AORI Studios’ products are made from Kanta fabrics composed of multiple layers of cotton. They are therefore essentially cotton monomaterials, which improves their reparability and circular potential.
The brand uses only upcycled materials, avoiding the use of new resources and keeping existing textiles in circulation.
A formal take-back service is not offered, but the brand emphasises longevity and repairability. Since the jackets are handmade, they can easily be repaired or adjusted, extending their life span.
CIRCULAR BUSINESS MODELL
AORI Studios does not currently offer an official repair or take-back service. However, customers may contact the brand at any time, and the designer will assess which repair is appropriate.
Other circular models, such as rental or resale, are not currently in place.

TRANSPORT
- Products are packed in India and transported to Brussels. Depending on urgency, shipping is done by air or by sea.

AORI Studios does not use any animal-derived fibres.
PRODUCT DESIGN
AORI Studios creates jackets for adults, mainly women, with designs that can be tailored individually.
The brand prioritises personalisation rather than fixed size charts, meaning each piece is adapted to the customer’s preferences and measurements. This approach supports inclusivity, accommodating different body types and style preferences.
SLOW FASHION PROCESSES
AORI Studios offers a continuous, small selection of designs. The jackets are made to order and sometimes made to measure, which prevents overproduction.
TRANSPARENCY OF PRODUCT
AORI Studios currently has no website and therefore no product pages. Nonetheless, product traceability is high, as each jacket is individually crafted and directly linked to the Jaipur studio and its designers. Customers know exactly where and by whom their piece was made.
TRANSPARENCY OF PROCESSES
Production processes take place on a small scale with a single partner studio in Jaipur and in close cooperation with Heena and Agrima. This manageable structure and the direct contact between founder and producers ensure a high level of transparency.
Upon request, the studio openly shares information about materials, production, and working conditions, even though no formal reports or public data are published.
