She is pink, she is fun and in business since 2010! Sigrid Ellen Münzberg is the founder of Sekundär Schick, an upcycling atelier in Berlin, who made it her passion and purpose to revive unwanted textiles and impart her vast knowledge to enthusiasts of all ages, turning what’s discarded into cherished possessions.
“My work begins where others throw things away!”
From an early age, Sigrid was enchanted by the art of sewing, repairing, and crafting fashion to suit her unique taste. The tailor and fashion designer turned her back on the fashion industry, realising the negative impact clothing and its production has on our planet.
Since then, she has guided individuals in transforming neglected garments into beloved treasures, infusing each lesson with fun and purpose. Participants learn about the true cost of fashion and discover the joy of creativity and the pride of crafting something with their hands.
Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply seeking a creative escape, Sigrid’s “Creative Events” at her atelier offer a unique blend of fun and learning. From hen parties to children’s birthdays and girls’ nights out, there’s an experience waiting for every group. You might also meet her in a school, a shopping mall, at a company event or behind a market stall, where she works with children and adults on creative projects, spreading the sustainable mission and practice of upcycling.
If you are based elsewhere, you can join an online course from the comfort of your couch or sewing table. Whether you’re starting from scratch or seeking to refine your skills, she’s there to guide, answer questions, and share valuable insights on design, patterns, and techniques. For the truly passionate, there’s the “Upcycling Club”—a fresh initiative offering monthly insights, exchanges, videos, and interactions with Sigrid and fellow upcycling enthusiasts.
