Marisa Fuentes Prado, known by her nickname Maqu, was inspired by her grandmother’s clothing production in Lima, Peru, which sparked her passion for designing clothes. After obtaining a fashion design degree and gaining industry experience, including working with her favourite designer Henrik Vibskov in Copenhagen, she found her true calling in Berlin. Maqu’s first collection in this dynamic city was born in 2016, blending art, design, practicality, and a strong social and environmental sustainability commitment. With all their cotton now organically grown and GOTS-certified, Maqu ensures personal connections with their producers and tailors while guaranteeing fair working conditions and wages. In November 2017, the Maqu Store & Studio opened its doors in Berlin’s Friedrichshain district, becoming a hub for its innovative and conscious fashion.
Marisa seamlessly blends tradition and modernity, focusing on building long-lasting relationships with artisans and celebrating Peru’s ancient textile heritage. With meticulous craftsmanship and a commitment to fairness, Maqu integrates the exceptional wool from a cherished Alpaca herd into their handcrafted jumpers.
