Yemayá Estate, also known as Yemayá’s Vegan Corner, opened its doors in 2020 in Reigersbos shopping centre in Amsterdam Southeast. The concept blends plant-based Surinamese soul food with deep community involvement and a mission to uplift and connect local residents.
The menu features rich, flavourful vegan dishes such as Saoto soup, lentil stews, pitas filled with sweet-sour tofu or spicy tempeh, oyster mushroom shawarma, vegan burgers, pizza, and classic Surinamese favourites like pom, gruntu, and moksi alesi — all prepared fresh and packed with nutrition.
Yemayá is more than just a food spot. Named after the Yoruba goddess of the sea, it symbolises empowerment, nourishment and collective care. The café is welcoming and inclusive, open to all ages and backgrounds. In addition to dine-in service, Yemayá also offers takeaway, local delivery (in Zuidoost and Diemen), and catering. Meal boxes and sustainable product lines are also in development.
Yemayá Estate actively partners with local schools, urban gardens and small businesses to strengthen food resilience in the neighbourhood. Future plans include clothing, co-working and sustainable products, all shaped around community needs.
