Café De Ceuvel is located at Korte Papaverweg 4, right in the heart of De Ceuvel — a renowned circular workspace and cultural hotspot in Amsterdam North. The café is part of a larger experimental site focused on sustainability, reuse and social connection.
Since November 2020, the café has been operated by a new team — consisting of a cultural programmer, a head bartender and a boat builder from the NDSM. Their collective, De Volharding, continues the original mission with renewed energy and a strong focus on climate-conscious hospitality.
The kitchen serves 100% vegan meals using organic and regional ingredients. The coffee is CO₂-free (from Kaap Koffie), the energy is off-grid and the menu features drinks from independent brewers like Gulpener, house-made sodas by Saru Soda and fermented foods that add both depth and texture. Nearly all materials, from the furniture to the building itself, are upcycled — using old piers, reclaimed wood and a reassembled lifeguard pavilion.
Café De Ceuvel also partners with Stadspas, offering discounted meals for people on a limited budget — making sustainable dining accessible to all.
Surrounded by refurbished houseboats now used as offices, studios and social spaces, Café De Ceuvel is not just a place to eat, but a living example of circular design, local resilience and community spirit.
