During Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week (7 – 11 October), you’ll find a unique collection of jackets at Sus & So by upcycling designer and former employee Jasmijn Miltenburg. She’ll be happy to tell you all about them on Friday and Saturday afternoons, 9 and 10 October.
A little different
At Sus & So, we do things a little differently from the ‘normal’ fashion world. Not only do we source our stock as sustainably as possible, but we also don’t blindly put everything on sale at the end of the season. Our philosophy is that whatever we don’t sell this year will be sold in the next season. Even so, we do end up with surplus stock. In the past, we’ve donated clothes to the Refugee Council or charity shops. For the first time, we’re trying something different.
Unique jackets
We gave the leftover Komodo jackets to our former employee, Jasmijn Miltenburg. She is an upcycling designer and we gave her free rein to do ‘something’ with them. She combined the jackets with each other and with old jeans, designing some amazing, unique pieces.
Jasmijn creates new items from worn textiles. She finds her inspiration in functional clothing such as uniforms, workwear, military clothing and traditional costumes. “I want to make clothing that isn’t subject to the whims of fashion, and that is gender-fluid.”
Fancy having something upcycled?
During Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week (7 – 11 October), you can view and buy Jasmijn’s jackets from us. On Friday afternoon, 9 October, and Saturday afternoon, 10 October, you can meet Jasmijn in person, and she’ll be happy to explain her creative process.
You can also bring along a garment that you’d like to have upcycled. Jasmijn will have a sewing machine with her and can carry out small jobs on the spot. If you have any larger requests, you can discuss them with her.
