Five Years of Design for Impact
COSH! member Secrid brings its Talent Podium back to Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven. Secrid is the Dutch pocketwear brand behind the aluminium cardprotector. For five years it has given a stage to designers working on social and ecological change, and 50 designers have taken part so far. Secrid calls its guiding idea Industrial Evolution: every new product should be better than the generation before it.
This year seven designers take the spotlight, selected in collaboration with Dutch Design Foundation. With RETURN TO SENDER, Bobby Kolade of Buzigahill turns discarded Western clothing into new Ugandan fashion. Christien Meindertsma’s Local Linoleum explores local materials such as wool, willow and flax. House of Thol designs practical products that help reduce food waste. Each selected designer receives coaching and €7,777, a nod to Secrid’s seven design principles.
Alongside the podium, Secrid presents The Original, Made in Europe. The exhibit uses the Original Cardprotector to show visitors how choices about materials, production, use and repair become part of the design itself.
