Making a hanging rug from wool scraps, dead stock yarn and natural wool with a tufting machine
You start with a short introduction to the materials, tools and techniques. You will then have the opportunity to practise until you have mastered the basic techniques of tufting.
Next, you will draw your design on the canvas and choose your colours. Then the real work can begin!
After tufting, you’ll be shown how to shear the tapestry and apply glue to the back of your work. Because your work needs to dry first, you will not be able to take it home with you right away. The finishing touches will be added, and it will be nicely framed later. After a maximum of three weeks, you can collect your rug or have it sent to you. The shipping costs to a Belgian address are 10 euros per piece. Shipping abroad is also possible, of course; however, different prices may apply.
Practical information
What you’ll make
A framed wall rug measuring 30 × 40 cm based on your own design.
💡 Tip: Think about your design in advance. Feel free to make some sketches or gather inspiration on Instagram or Pinterest. On the Instagram page of @tapis.plain, you will also find plenty of photos and videos from previous workshops – perfect for getting ideas. There are lots of possibilities, but avoid fine line drawings and details. Unfortunately, relief tufting is not possible during this workshop. (You need different machines for that.) On the day itself, you will be guided on what is possible and how to do it. If you would still like to check in advance whether your design is realistic, please do not hesitate to send an email beforehand.
