WORKING CONDITIONS & WAGES
The organic cotton comes from Peru, a country known for its high-quality, durable fibres. Yarns, labels and fabrics are produced in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy, all countries with high labour and environmental standards and short supply routes within Europe. Final garment assembly takes place in Bulgaria, an EU member state where EU labour law fully applies.
Wellicious works exclusively with suppliers whose materials and processes are assessed as part of the Cradle to Cradle Certified® certification and recertified every two years by an independent assessment body. In addition, an independent auditor regularly checks that the warehouse, suppliers and production sites comply with the strict C2C standards.
The brand has a code of conduct and publishes its certified suppliers on the official website of the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute. Relevant certifications include Cradle to Cradle Certified® Gold for the product as a whole, Platinum for Material Health, and a Hohenstein certificate confirming that the potentially biodegradable elastane is not ecotoxic.
Wellicious works with a limited, carefully selected number of suppliers and does not own any production facilities. The brand visits the production sites regularly and places great importance on a transparent supply chain.
Production in Germany, Austria, Italy and Bulgaria is subject to EU labour law and national labour legislation, which cover health and safety at work, equality, protection against discrimination, minimum wages and working hours, among other things. In Switzerland, comparably strict national labour laws apply.
Together with the UK charity DIRT, Wellicious supports environmental and social initiatives for a fairer world.
MATERIALS
- Certified organic cotton
- Potentially biodegradable elastane (Cradle to Cradle Certified® Gold, non-ecotoxic according to Hohenstein)
Do you know the benefits of organic cotton?
PACKAGING
- Wellicious ships online orders plastic-free. The shipping boxes are made from recycled cardboard and sealed with paper tape, and paper is used as filling material. Where possible, boxes are reused to further reduce material use.
- Within the supply chain, Wellicious also relies on recycled cardboard boxes and paper-based packaging materials and deliberately avoids unnecessary plastic packaging.
WATER USE & CHEMICALS
The organic cotton used by Wellicious is certified and grown without synthetic pesticides or herbicides.
Wellicious avoids harmful substances and additives throughout the entire production process, as confirmed by its Cradle to Cradle Certified® Platinum rating for Material Health. The Cradle to Cradle certification also ensures that no harmful chemicals such as PFAS, formaldehyde or azo dyes are used.
To avoid microplastics, Wellicious uses potentially biodegradable elastane. According to Hohenstein, it is the only elastane in the world classified as non-ecotoxic, and it does not cause long-lasting microplastic pollution.
CIRCULAR PRODUCT DESIGN
Wellicious products are made from a blend of certified organic cotton and potentially biodegradable elastane. Because plant-based and synthetic fibres are combined, they are not mono-materials.
However, the elastane has been specially developed to be potentially biodegradable without leaving harmful substances behind. This makes the blend more suitable for circularity than conventional fibre blends.
Wellicious offers a repair kit made from the same Cradle to Cradle certified materials as the original garment. Customers can request it directly from the brand when needed.
CIRCULAR BUSINESS MODEL
Wellicious offers an active take-back scheme that goes beyond a simple returns option. Customers receive 10% off their next purchase when they send back worn garments. The returned items are composted in a targeted way under scientific supervision, with the biodegradation process managed so that no residues remain.
