Working Conditions & Living Wages
Every WEEVN piece is handwoven by the founders themselves.
The studio has six looms: two table looms, three floor looms and one computer-assisted loom. The software speeds up the preparation, but the weaving itself is still done by hand.
Belgium has strong labour laws.
WEEVN buys its yarn from two suppliers in Kortrijk and Venne.
WEEVN is part of the Handmade in Brugge network of local makers.
Materials
- Merino wool
- Linen, including Belgian linen
- Silk
- Cotton
- Polyester (occasionally)
Packaging
- WEEVN uses paper as packaging material.
- No packaging is required within the supply chain.
Water Usage & Chemicals
Ingrid dyes many of the yarns herself using synthetic dyes. The makers chose these over natural dyes for better lightfastness, so colours fade less in sunlight.
WEEVN chooses yarns without synthetics wherever possible. Polyester is only included now and then, so microplastic shedding is less of a concern.
Circular Product Design
WEEVN plans its weaving to limit waste. Weaving is a naturally resource-efficient craft: the makers only weave what is needed, and because the size of each piece is limited by the width of the loom, every project has to be carefully planned in advance. Each warp thread is cut to length one by one, and the makers set up a loom for three scarves at once instead of one, so there are fewer leftovers.
A small part of the yarn is recycled.
Most pieces are made from a single material, and fibre blends are rare. This makes them easier to recycle at the end of their life.
Circular Business Models
WEEVN provides a repair service.
WEEVN plans to run weaving workshops, which can help people understand and value textiles more.

WEEVN offers made-to-order pieces. Customers can choose their own colours and other details.

Visitors are welcome to see the work up close, feel the textiles for themselves and speak directly with the makers about materials and techniques.
Transparency on Processes
At WEEVN, the whole process happens under one roof. Visitors can see the looms in action and talk directly to Katrien and Ingrid.
