WORKING CONDITIONS & LIVING WAGES
Tranquillo produces in India, Nepal, and Turkey. Particularly India and Nepal are considered medium- to high-risk production countries with regard to labour rights, corruption, and occupational safety. Tranquillo addresses these risks by working with internationally recognised certifications such as GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard), GRS (Global Recycled Standard), GoodWeave, and through its membership in amfori BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative). These standards help monitor aspects such as fairer wages, safer working conditions, the prohibition of child or forced labour, as well as environmental criteria throughout the supply chain.
The brand describes its relationships with production partners as long-standing and based on trust – many of these partnerships have existed for years and, according to the brand, have developed into friendships. Tranquillo states that it maintains close and regular contact with its producers and visits them twice a year. Although the company does not own any production facilities, it prioritises transparent and stable supply chains with a small number of carefully selected partners. Together with these partners, it sets goals for a more socially and environmentally responsible production.
The wool accessories from Nepal are handmade in small workshops. These workshops not only help preserve traditional craftsmanship, but also offer fairer employment opportunities to economically disadvantaged individuals. In Nepal, particular attention is paid to ensuring that the wool comes from more animal-friendly sources and that the manual work is carried out under socially fairer conditions.

Tranquillo uses a wide range of materials, most of which come from natural or recycled raw materials. The brand attaches great importance to certification, durability and environmentally friendlier processing.
PACKAGING
Packaging throughout the supply chain and in e‑commerce is designed to reduce plastic as much as possible. Within the supply chain, it is necessary for products to be individually packaged to ensure protection during transport. For this purpose, recycled plastic is used. However, in order to save material, efforts are made to package multiple items together in a single bag where feasible.
In the e‑commerce sector, products are shipped in paper packaging, and even the labels are made of paper to facilitate recycling. For certain product categories, such as hosiery, the brand deliberately avoids additional plastic components.
WATER USAGE & CHEMICALS
Tranquillo particularly emphasises the reduced water consumption of the materials used, such as organic cotton and EcoVero™ viscose. Compared to conventional cotton, organic cotton requires significantly less water as no chemical fertilisers or pesticides are used. According to the brand, EcoVero™ is made from certified wood and uses up to 50% less water and energy than conventional viscose.
Tranquillo relies on several recognised certifications for the control of chemical substances:
- GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard): regulates not only social but also strict ecological criteria, including the avoidance of toxic substances in the dyeing, printing and finishing of textiles.
- GRS (Global Recycled Standard): Also sets standards for the use and management of chemicals in the processing of recycled materials.
- TENCEL™ and EcoVero™ are produced in a closed-loop system in which up to 99% of the solvents are recovered – a significant contribution to reducing chemical pollution.
Due to the GOTS certification, it can be assumed that toxic or heavy metal-containing dyes are completely avoided.
The only potential source of microplastics is recycled polyester, which is only used in individual products.
CIRCULAR PRODUCT DESIGN
Tranquillo mainly uses mono-materials, which generally makes the products easier to recycle. However, blends with elastane are used in certain materials to increase elasticity and comfort. These blended fibres are much more difficult to recycle as plant and synthetic fibres are combined in one product.
A specific take-back or recycling strategy is not offered.
CIRCULAR BUSINESS MODEL
Tranquillo does not currently operate a repair, take-back or resale service. Other circular business models such as rental or cooperation with second-hand platforms are also not part of the brand strategy. The circular idea is essentially limited to material selection and durability, without operational implementation in the form of services or return offers.
DISTANCE & COMPLEXITY OF THE SUPPLY CHAIN
- India
- Nepal
- Turkey
- The Tranquillo HQ is located in Dresden, Germany.
TRANSPORTATION
- The transport of goods is primarily carried out by sea. Air freight is only used in exceptional cases to keep the environmental footprint as low as possible. The company operates its own warehouse in the USA to avoid additional international shipments.
- E‑commerce deliveries are handled by DHL.
- Wool
Tranquillo only uses wool as an animal material in selected accessories such as hats and scarves. These come from mulesing-free animal husbandry in New Zealand, which, according to the brand, guarantees particularly animal-friendlier conditions. The processing takes place in a social project in Nepal, where women make the products by hand using traditional methods. This not only creates secure jobs, but also contributes to the economic empowerment of the craftswomen involved.

TRANSPARENCY ON PRODUCT
On Tranquillo’s product pages, basic information is provided regarding material composition, fit, and sustainability aspects.
However, there is no specific information about the country of production or the precise origin or manufacturing details of individual products. As a result, individual product traceability – for example, down to the specific sewing facility or country of origin – is not possible. The information remains at a general level.
In a conversation with the company, all relevant information was disclosed and communicated clearly and transparently.
TRANSPARENCY ON PROCESS
On its website and in its general brand information, Tranquillo provides basic details about materials and social standards. The content focuses on certifications and general statements regarding fairer working conditions, long-standing supplier relationships, and a more conscious use of resources.
However, transparency remains limited when it comes to specific suppliers and production processes. The brand does not disclose names or locations of individual production facilities. Even on product pages, traceability is only partially possible – for example, through the inclusion of a GOTS certification number, but without detailed information on the origin of the specific garment.
In a conversation with the company, all relevant information was disclosed and communicated clearly and transparently.
