WORKING CONDITIONS & LIVING WAGES
Revolution relies on close and long-term partnerships with its suppliers, who are based in Turkey, China, India, Bangladesh, and Denmark. The majority of their partners in the supply chain are members of ethical trade initiatives such as Sedex, GOTS or BSCI, which advocate responsible social and environmental standards and are therefore committed to more sustainable practices.
According to the brand, the human rights of workers are consistently respected within the supply chain, which excludes child and forced labour as well as discrimination and harassment, for example, and guarantees safety in the workplace and fair wages.
MATERIALS
- Cotton
- Organic cotton
- Polyester
- Acrylic
- Nylon
- Wool
- Elastane
- Viscose
- Linen
According to the brand’s 2021 Responsibility Manifesto, in 2019, 59% of their total material consumption was cotton, of which 6% was organic. Their remaining material consumption consisted of mostly synthetic materials, particularly polyester.
The brand states that they are working to gradually replace their consumption of conventional cotton with more sustainable alternatives such as organic cotton and recycled cotton.
In our recent communication with Revolution, they stated that in 2024, 73% of their total material consumption was organic cotton. Their final garments aren’t yet certified, although the Revolution aims to soon offer GOTS-certified products.
PACKAGING
Revolution states that they use recycled polyester and FSC-certified paper for their labels and hangtags. Revolution has informed COSH! that they now also use recycled polybags for transportation in their supply-chain.
WATER USAGE & CHEMICALS
Revolution’s 2021 Responsibility Manifesto stated that they aimed to replace their synthetic materials with recycled alternatives, and use 70% recycled synthetics by 2025. It is not yet clear whether this goal has been achieved. Using recycled materials would reduce their consumption of raw materials, and the associated chemical and water usage.
Revolution also aims to increase their use of organic and recycled cotton. The brand has informed COSH! that in 2024, 91% of their cotton consumption was organic. Organic cotton requires less water to grow than conventional cotton, and is also produced without harmful chemicals or pesticides.
Revolution encourages consumers to wash their clothes at lower temperatures, and only when necessary. This will help to reduce the environmental impact associated with the usage phase of garments.
CIRCULAR PRODUCT DESIGN
Revolution states that they have improved their knowledge of using monomaterials to increase the likelihood that their products will be able to be recycled at the end of their lifespan. They also have ambitions to design for disassembly to further support the re-use of their materials.
In 2019, 55% of their knitwear products consisted of 100% cotton, and several items currently available on their website are also monomaterials (S/S 2025).
CIRCULAR BUSINESS MODELS
Revolution states that first and foremost they urge their consumers to keep and love their products for as long as possible. They therefore provide tutorials for repairs on their website, to encourage consumers to extend the lifespan of their clothing through simple fixes. They also provide extra buttons for selected styles.
But if consumers grow tired of their products, they can sell them back to the brand. Revolution will wash, repair, and refresh these items, and resell them in their Vintaged collection. This extends the lifespan of their clothing, whilst reducing the demand for raw materials.
DISTANCE & COMPLEXITY OF THE SUPPLY CHAIN
Production locations
- Turkey
- China
- India
- Bangladesh
- Denmark
Revolution has a relatively long and complex supply chain, with 12 different Tier 1 suppliers mostly located in China, Turkey, and India. They also work with one facility in Bangladesh, and two in Denmark which produce some of their accessories. Their headquarters are based in Denmark. This means that the emissions associated with their production are higher, as products have to travel further to get to consumers.
TRANSPORTATION
Revolution does not disclose what transportation methods are used in their supply chain. They only offer shipping within Europe, which keeps transportation related emissions slightly lower.
- Wool
Revolution informed COSH! that wool is rarely used in their collection, accounting for 1.83% of their total material consumption in 2024. According to the brand, their wool is always responsibly sourced, although it is not yet clear what this means in practice.
PRODUCT DESIGN
Revolution states that they have always been concerned with designing long-lasting products. Their collections do not reflect current trends, but instead consist of classic styles that last many years. This should encourage consumers to keep hold of their products for longer.
The product pages on Revolution’s website guide consumers to their Care Guide, to help ensure that their products are properly looked after, and will therefore last longer.
Revolution also aims to improve their knowledge of adjustable sizing, transformability, and modularity. This will help to further extend the lifespan of their products, as consumers will be able to keep their products even if their size or preferences change.
SLOW FASHION PROCESSES
Revolution states that they aim to cut down the amount of styles in their collections in an attempt to combat waste. They also state that in most cases, they produce little or no extra goods for stock. This is in effort to avoid producing garments that end up on sale and encourage customers to buy items that they do not need.
Revolution launches two contemporary collections as well as two revolutionary capsules every year.
TRANSPARENCY ON PRODUCT
Each product page states what material the item is made from, and the production country. This should help to connect consumers to the processes behind the creation of their garments. Revolution could take their transparency efforts a step further by disclosing where they source their raw materials from.
TRANSPARENCY ON PROCESSES
Revolution provides some transparency about their processes. They have published a full list of their Tier 1 suppliers on their website, which will help consumers to understand their supply chain. However, the most recent report on their processes was published in 2021, so it may be difficult for consumers to understand the brand’s true sustainability efforts and how much progress they have made towards their goals more recently.
Conclusion
This Scandinavian streetwear label offers contemporary menswear made with more sustainable materials. Although it is difficult to determine their true sustainability efforts, as an updated sustainability report is yet to be published, it is evident that the brand is striving to produce more responsibly. In particular, they have increased their use of organic cotton, and most of their products are monomaterials. This circular initiative means that their items will be easier to recycle, and less likely to generate waste.
