Powder values ethical and local production in cosmetic manufacturing. The company has a lab in France where all products are developed. The composition and packaging of products is done in an ESAT (a sheltered workshop) in Drôme, France. This collaboration came about because Powder wants to support people distanced from the labour market through social and professional inclusion.

Description of ingredients

• Illite, kaolin, montmorillonite (Green clay): Rich in minerals, these clays absorb impurities and excess sebum, deeply cleansing the skin and scalp.
• Citrus aurantium peel powder (Orange): Packed with antioxidants and vitamin C, helps strengthen hair and gives a fresh scent.
• Urtica dioica leaf powder (Nettle): Stimulates blood circulation of the scalp and promotes hair growth.
• Musa acuminate fruit powder (Banana): Hydrates and nourishes dry hair and scalp.
• Zea mays starch (Corn starch): Acts as a natural dry shampoo and absorbs excess grease.
• Bacopa monnieri powder (Brahmi): Strengthens hair and helps against hair loss.
• Althaea officinalis root powder (Common Holly): Softens and moisturises the scalp, ideal for dry and sensitive hair.
• Cassia auriculata leaf powder (Neutral henna): Adds volume and shine without colouring the hair.
• Moringa Oleifera leaf powder (Moringa): Rich in vitamins and minerals, nourishes and strengthens hair.
• Azadirachta indica leaves powder (Neem): Known for its antibacterial properties, helps with irritated scalp and dandruff.

Powder hair care is entirely based on the power of nature, with 100% natural and organically certified ingredients. 50 – 70% of the ingredients come from organic farming. 

The choice of Ayurvedic plants comes because of their exceptional action on hair: they cleanse, nourish and strengthen without the damage of conventional products. Thanks to their pure and unprocessed form, they retain all their benefits, with no added allergens, perfumes, preservatives or essential oils. Neem, for example, is known for its powerful effects, but is not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women due to its intensity. Powder claims that all ingredients are grown with respect for biodiversity and local farmers.

Packaging

The company does not use plastic in their packaging to reduce their environmental impact.

Water usage

All products are certified organic by Cosmécert, according to the international COSMOS standard.

Powder products consist only of powder, which drastically reduces water consumption. The users add water to the product themselves when using it. 

NOTE: Water usage/​pollution down to the raw materials is generally impossible to track for cosmetic products.

Circular packaging design

Powder has made a conscious decision not to use plastic for their cosmetic products. Instead, they prefer biodegradable, recyclable and reusable materials, such as cardboard. By doing so, they want to contribute to an eco-friendlier and more responsible approach within the cosmetics industry.

Moreover, the brand offers refills to minimise waste. This means you can keep using your favourite products without buying new packaging all the time. Although there is no specific take-back system for empty packaging, the materials are easy to recycle through regular waste streams.

Powder tries to minimise the transport impact on the environment, despite the distant origins of their raw materials. Ayurvedic herbs are imported directly from India by ship. 

• Transport in e‑commerce: The company uses Colissimo / Mondial Relay / Chronopost services.

Powder makes 7 commitments to its customers, number 6: respect the living. The company is against animal testing, which has been banned by European legislation since 2009. All products are vegan.

This pledge also includes their commitment to organic certification to combat pesticides and GMOs.

Product design

Powder makes hair products as treatment and cleansing. Products can be used once, but the company recommends regular use during (between 1 and 3 months) for optimal and lasting results.

Most products can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Powder also offers accessories to apply products:

• A wooden spoon to measure out the right amount of powder.
• A stainless steel whisk to mix ingredients
• A wooden brush to apply hair root treatments easily and professionally. 

Transparency on product

A short ingredients list can be found on product pages. Furthermore, for each product, it is stated once again that everything is manufactured in an ESAT in Drôme, France.

Transparency on processes

Powder stands for responsible and ethical production with fair prices. To have some control over e‑commerce costs, you can only place an order from €15. The company explains to their customers why this is so through an illustrative example on their website. This also gives customers further insight into Powder’s price calculation.
