If you’re using wool nappies, lanolising them before first use is essential. Lanolin is a natural wax from sheep’s wool that helps wool become water-resistant while maintaining breathability. Regular lanolising keeps the fabric functional and extends its lifespan.
The brand claims it works exclusively with certified materials to ensure safety and sustainability. Every component must meet rigorous standards, including compliance with:
- Act No. 258/2000 Coll. (public health protection)
- Regulation of the Ministry of Health 84/2011 Coll. (hygiene standards for children’s products)
- GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) – for organic fibres
- OEKO-TEX® – ensuring textiles are free from harmful substances
Packaging
Petit Lulu has eliminated plastic from its entire packaging process. Products are instead wrapped in recycled carton, which includes printed product information — reducing the need for additional labels or inserts.
For online orders, customers receive their items in sturdy recycled cardboard boxes. The majority of these boxes are reused from local businesses. By collecting and repurposing boxes that would otherwise become waste, the brand significantly cuts down on resource use and carbon footprint.
In the Czech Republic, an ecological governmental program determines recycling contributions based on a company’s environmental impact. Thanks to the brand’s commitment to reusing and minimising waste, its fees remain relatively low — proving that sustainable choices make a real difference.
By focusing on reuse, recycling, and responsible logistics, the brand pushes for a more circular and low-waste future in packaging.
Water usage & chemicals
The brand doesn’t mention any specifics on water usage or chemicals.
Circular product design
The brand uses mostly synthetic blends, which makes their products hard to recycle. They do try to use as many recycled materials as possible to help with their circularity journey.
The cotton nappies should be recyclable.
Circular business models
Due to the product, the brand doesn’t offer any rental, resale services.
However, their products are inherently circular since they are designed to be reused over and over again.
Distance & complexity of the supply chain
- Production locations: Czech Republic
- HQ is located in Jablonec nad Nisou, Leberecky Czech Republic
This makes the supply chain simple and short, but we would need to know where materials are sourced to get a real indication of the supply chain complexity.
Transportation
- The brand uses road transport in the supply chain and in e‑commerce
Rather than focusing on direct-to-consumer online sales, the brand prefers local distribution through wholesale partners. This approach reduces the overall transport emissions associated with individual shipments and ensures products reach customers in the most efficient way possible.
- Merino Wool
The brand has a small collection based on merino wool due to customer demand. They don’t know much about the origins of the wool.
Product design
The brand produces mostly reusable nappies and reusable ladies pads.
- Newborn nappies: 2 – 6kg
- Pull-Up Cover nappies: 4 – 7kg, 6 – 10gk, 9 – 13kg, 12 – 15kg
- Pull-Up Wool Cover nappies: S, M, L
- Maxi- XL covers: 12 – 17kg
- One-Size nappies: 5 – 16kg
The brand also has a branch of children’s outerwear under the brand WAMU.
Slow fashion processes
The brand has a steady collection of nappies and gradually adds colours and designs.
Petit Lulu takes part in sales periods.
Transparency on product
The brand details the materials on each product page and notes that all products are produced in the Czech Republic.
Transparency on processes
Tracking materials to their source is a priority for Petit Lulu. They claim to maintain a strict oversight of suppliers, ensuring full traceability and ethical standards from fibre to final product. However, this oversight isn’t public with consumers or shared with COSH!.
We would love to know where their materials come from. Overall we believe there is room for improvement.
Conclusion
Petit Lulu makes a strong effort in zero-waste packaging, reusable cloth nappies, and local production, reducing waste and emissions. However, the brand could improve its transparency, animal welfare policies, and reduction of synthetic materials. Greater clarity on sourcing and certifications would strengthen its commitment to sustainability. Still, choosing reusable nappies and eco-friendly baby essentials over disposables is a great step towards a lower impact!
