WORKING CONDITIONS & LIVING WAGES
In the early years, products were produced in bulk and manufactured in Poland under fairer working conditions. But ambition grew: fashion needed to become not only more sustainable, but also more personal. In 2016, production was brought entirely back to the brand’s own atelier in the Netherlands. This way, the brand guarantees good working space for all employees and fairer wages. The brand minimises their carbon footprint by localising production.
Moyzo also wants to ensure fairer and safer working conditions without the use of child labour in fabric production. This is why it prefers GOTS-certified cotton and linen.
MATERIALS
- Organic cotton
- Linen
- Sheer Wool
- Alpaca Wool
- Hemp
- Tencel (Lyocell)
- Lycra
- Elastane
- Polyester
The brand prefers fabrics where farmers, who grow the necessary raw materials, can invest in healthy soil and crops with a natural balance. The brand uses up to 90% organic, GOTS-certified fabric and is OEKO-TEX 100 certified. Read more about organic cotton here.
Moyzo prefers to work with natural materials because of their natural look and wearing properties, such as absorbency, softness and durability. These fabrics are also chosen for their softness to the skin and ease of care.
Moyzo is very conscious of the impact of synthetic materials such as giving off microplastics and necessary fossil fuels. Therefore, the brand prefers to add synthetic fibres to fabrics only in small quantities to strengthen the textiles.
PACKAGING
Moyzo tries to send packages in an envelope that fits in a letterbox, if too big the brand works with cardboard packages. All items are wrapped in recycled paper with no plastic.
WATER USAGE & CHEMICALS
The brand says all fabrics are made with an eco-friendly production process with careful use of water, energy and eco-friendly dyes.
Some of the fabrics used are GOTS-certified to ensure careful use of water and energy. The company also chooses fabrics with organic raw materials to reduce the exposure of toxic chemicals from pesticides in the soil, air, water and food supply. They believe this choice is an easy way to take environmental protection measures.
CIRCULAR PRODUCT DESIGN
Almost all garments are made of 95% mono material, with only a small percentage of elastane for stretch or a small percentage of polyester.
The brand tries to limit the use of (recycled) polyester because of its environmental impact. It takes into account the biodegradability of materials. Unlike natural fibres, which decompose between 1 month and 5 years, synthetic fibres can take up to 600 years to decompose.
Moyzo says that most of their woollen garments are ready for recycling, as they are mono-material with no lining or haberdashery.
Fabrics are purchased in small runs from Dutch suppliers and each pattern is hand-drawn and cut to reduce fabric loss. Even the smallest scraps are given a new purpose as colour samples for customers.
CIRCULAR BUSINESS MODELS
Moyzo offers their customers repairs so that their garments remain in use for as long as possible.
DISTANCE & COMPLEXITY OF THE SUPPLY CHAIN
- Production locations: The Netherlands
- HQ: The Netherlands
- Export: Europe
Moyzo purchases most of their fabrics from Dutch suppliers (where fabrics are sourced from Turkey, India, China, etc.). The company thus tries to buy their fabric as close to the production studio as possible to contribute to a smaller carbon footprint.
Moyzo believes that a short supply chain makes it easier to monitor quality.
TRANSPORTATION
- Transportation in the supply chain: since most of its supply chain is local we believe the brand mostly uses road transport. We don’t have any confirmation on this.
- Transportation in e‑commerce: Post NL and DHL Go Green
- Wool
The brand states that animal welfare is guaranteed through their wool supplier Ecological Textiles. Through this supplier, Moyzo buys both conventional wool and GOTS certified wool. This supplier states that their certified wool guarantees that sheep are naturally fed from grass in pastures that are not sprayed with pesticides or fertilisers, and are cared for without hormones, anti-parasite drugs and mulesing-free.
The remaining bioled wool from another supplier is now being sold out as much as possible so that Moyzo can switch completely to 100% GOTS wool.
PRODUCT DESIGN
The brand offers a wide range of women’s clothing in varies colours. Each collection is designed to be compatible with each other, former and future collections. Several garments can be worn in different ways to turn into a different item. The brand aims to create timeless, durable pieces.
Each garment has a detailed size guide to help find the perfect fit. Sizes range from XS-XL, but also has a custom option in case these sizes don’t apply to the customer’s body.
SLOW FASHION PROCESSES
not only products, but also personalised service and attention. This creates a unique online meeting place where makers and users come together to share ideas, wishes and ideals.
For Moyzo, community plays an active role in the design process. Thanks to their tips and feedback, the brand continuously improves their designs, patterns and production methods. In this way, the brand wants to create fashion that lasts longer and better reflects what people really want to wear.
By making conscious choices and distancing themselves from fast fashion, their customers contribute to a more sustainable fashion industry. They become ambassadors of a slow fashion movement that revolves around quality, transparency and respect for craftsmanship.
The brand mostly produces to order, but stocks a number of basics.
Upon request, the brand offers custom orders.
