WORKING CONDITIONS AND WAGES
Mazine has been producing at two permanent partner companies for years: a long-standing outerwear supplier in Hefei (China) and an essentials manufacturer in Istanbul (Turkey). Both factories are certified – SA8000 (China) and GOTS (Turkey) – and are visited regularly. According to Mazine, the relationships are based on direct communication, mutual trust and a commitment to fairer wages and safe working conditions. The company deliberately avoids using intermediaries.
Both production sites are visited regularly and inspected annually by GOTS and GRS audits.
The label does not have its own production facilities, but works with external partner companies.
MATERIALS
- GOTS-certified organic cotton
- GRS-certified recycled polyester
- Lenzing™ TENCEL™
- ECOVERO™
- Linen
- Sympatex (recycled functional fabrics in development)
- PFC-free water-repellent finishes
The GOTS-certified cotton comes from controlled organic cultivation and is processed without harmful chemicals. Are you familiar with the advantages of organic cotton? Here you can also learn more about recycled polyester and how sustainable it is.
PACKAGING
- Within the supply chain, the clothing is first packed in bags made from recycled polyester, then bundled in cardboard boxes and shipped to headquarters. For onward distribution to B2B customers, the clothing is packed in additional cardboard boxes, taking care to minimise the number of shipping processes. The aim is to keep packaging materials, transport emissions and costs to a minimum.
- Mazine uses bags made from post-consumer plastic for its online shop deliveries. These bags clearly state that they should be reused before being disposed of.
WATER USE AND CHEMICALS
In terms of water management, a new central location is currently being built at the Turkish production facility, which will enable more efficient control of water consumption, among other things. The use of a solar power system to supply energy to the site is another example of integrated environmental management.
When it comes to chemical management, Mazine complies with GOTS and GRS certification standards. Both certificates require the exclusion of particularly problematic chemicals in production – especially in the processing of fibres, dyeing and finishing of textiles. In addition, Mazine has selected products tested twice a year by an external independent institute for potential risks, which provides additional safety.
The materials used – in particular Lenzing™ TENCEL™ and Lenzing™ ECOVERO™ – come from closed production cycles in which solvents are largely recovered and reused. This significantly reduces water and chemical consumption compared to conventional viscose.
Twice a year, Mazine has selected products tested externally for harmful substances.
Mazine uses a high proportion of recycled polyester, which reduces the use of fossil raw materials. At the same time, there is a risk of microplastic release during washing. There is no known explicit strategy to minimise or compensate for this problem.
As GOTS and GRS certified products are part of the collection, it can be assumed that these processes comply with certain environmental standards.
The construction of a new Turkish production facility is intended to improve water management and energy efficiency (including a solar power system).
Circular Product Design
Mazine focuses on using primarily monomaterials, particularly in products made from organic cotton or recycled polyester. Avoiding blends of plant-based and synthetic fibres within a product significantly simplifies subsequent recycling and promotes circularity. The label pays attention to the traceability of materials as early as the design process and prefers components that either complement each other in terms of materiality or can be easily separated from each other.
Mazine does not currently offer a formal take-back system for worn-out clothing. A fully circular collection with a take-back service is planned for 2026 – 2027.
Recycled materials are used largely in the polyester content of the collections. This already consists largely of recycled fibres, and in future only GRS-certified polyester will be used.
Within the production process, Mazine takes care to plan production surpluses sensibly in future collections in order to avoid pre-consumer waste.
In the event of production errors or minor damage, the affected garments are repaired. An official repair service does not yet exist, but is in the works – including comprehensive care instructions to extend the product’s lifespan.
The exclusive use of GRS-certified polyester is planned for future collections.
Circular Business Model
There is currently no standardised repair service available via the online shop or in partnership with repair shops. However, the company emphasises that in most cases it will repair any material or manufacturing defects, as well as clearly defined damage, free of charge.
A fully circular collection with a take-back service is planned for 2026 – 2027.
The current focus is on manufacturing durable products that are designed to have a longer service life thanks to high-quality materials, functional design and the use of monomaterials.
DISTANCE AND SUPPLY CHAIN COMPLEXITY
- China
- Turkey
- Mazine HQ is located in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany
TRANSPORTATION
- In the supply chain, the clothing is bundled after production and shipped to the headquarters in Germany. Mazine emphasises that care is taken to minimise shipping processes in order to minimise CO₂ emissions.
- No emission-offsetting measures are used in the webshop shipping process.
Mazine is working on an EU-compliant climate protection certificate (Scope 1 – 3). An LCA-based emissions calculation at product level is currently being developed.
Mazine is PETA-certified and therefore officially recognised as a vegan label. This means that no animal materials are used in any of the products.
PRODUCT DESIGN
Mazine offers a wide selection of women’s and men’s clothing, including everyday wear and functional outdoor fashion such as jackets, coats and weatherproof garments. The collections combine functional details with urban street style, focusing on timeless, simple designs that transcend short-lived trends. The aim is to offer durable fashion with clean, modern lines for an active, style-conscious target group.
SLOW FASHION PROZESSE
PRODUCT TRANSPARENCY
The product pages on Mazine provide basic information such as material composition and associated certificates, care instructions, fit and design description. This information is supplemented by a size chart, care instructions, shipping information and a reference to a general page about the materials.
However, there is no information about the country of production or the specific production site for each item. This means that individual products cannot be traced. Transparency at product level is therefore limited to the material description.
PROCESS TRANSPARENCY
Mazine provides basic information about its own processes and long-standing production partners on its website. The content is mainly found in general texts. Although it is emphasised that the company has worked exclusively with two permanent production sites in China and Turkey since its foundation, specific details such as the country of production at item level, company name or location details are missing. Product-related traceability is therefore not provided.
Certificates, visit frequency, design approaches and sustainability progress are communicated transparently. There is no formal sustainability report, but annual progress is announced (e.g. impact metrics, CO₂ balances, water data).
Conclusion
Mazine exudes an active zest for life and offers casual women’s and men’s clothing for those looking for functional street style. Are you ready for your next adventure? Then discover the label at the bottom of the COSH! map.
