The brand says it has searched all corners of the world for the most reliable and ethical manufacturers, although they do not yet have certifications for this. Keeko’s manufacturers are located in Australia, India, China, Vietnam and the US. Since not all of these countries are covered by European labor laws, we cannot automatically assume good working conditions at the factories. It is also not clear whether the brand visits the factories itself. Since Keeko is an Australian brand, some manufacturers will also be difficult to monitor due to distance. 

Keeko supports Project Anant. This is a women-owned enterprise to support the collection and ethical disposal of low-grade, soft plastic packaging waste that would otherwise end up in overflowing landfills. In addition, the brand supports Seed Mob, Australia’s first indigenous youth-led climate change network. At checkout, customers have the option to support this cause with a small donation as well. The brand doubles every donation at checkout!

Its oral care products are composed of natural and organic ingredients that are safe for enamel yet effective in whitening teeth and cleaning the mouth of harmful bacteria. The brand does not use harsh chemicals, artificial colors and flavors, parabens, SLS/SLES, triclosan and GMOs. Instead of fluoride, the brand uses hydroxyapatite, a natural calcium mineral that also occurs naturally in your teeth and bones.

Keeko has joined rePurpose Global in its commitment to sustainability and reducing plastic waste by being officially certified plastic neutral. This means that for every product they sell that contains plastic, they fund the removal of plastic waste from landfills and natural environments so that it can be recycled and reused. rePurpose Global is a leading Plastic Action Platform focused on reducing waste, reviving lives and restoring the natural balance.

The toothbrushes have a handle made of biodegradable corn starch and bristles made of charcoal-enriched nylon. The floss is also made of nylon with a wax of coconut oil. The tongue cleaner is made of uncoated copper. Although the toothbrushes and tongue scraper have 100% plastic-free packaging, the oil pulling pouches are unfortunately packaged in disposable plastic containers. 

In addition, the brand has launched the Keeko Take Back Recycling Program – an initiative that makes it super easy to return any brand of old oral care products so they can be responsibly recycled by Terrecycle Australia. 

The manufacturers are scattered around the world, and from there the products also have to travel quite a distance to get to your home. As a result, the brand’s supply chain is automatically long. Fortunately, the brand is committed to offsetting carbon emissions. To do this, they work with their website partner Shopify to automatically purchase carbon credits for all orders placed on the site to offset the carbon emissions generated. As a result, every order at Keeko is shipped 100% carbon neutral.

All Keeko products are PETA certified cruelty-free and 100% vegan.

Sabrina, the founder of Keeko, cannot stress enough how important oral care is to overall health. It was therefore important to her to combine form (beautiful packaging) and function (effective natural ingredients) to get people as excited about their oral care routine as they are about their skincare routine. And as far as we are concerned, they have succeeded! The brand offers a wide range of natural oral care products.

In terms of transparency, there is still much to be gained for Keeko. At COSH! for example, we would think it would be cool if the brand were a little more open about the manufacturers and suppliers of the ingredients.
