IMPERATIVE’s production is in a factory in Alicante with more than 60 years of experience in the sector. Their relationship with the factory is very close, as it is located less than 70 kilometres from their warehouse. 

They frequently visit the factory facilities and know the production process and the people involved. This proximity allows them to have greater knowledge and control over the quality of their products, enabling them to ensure that they are produced under ethical working conditions.

Their shoes are made with BioGreen, a polyester, cotton and polyurethane material. At COSH! we are not big fans of polyester because of its environmental impact. However, this mix of natural and synthetic materials is often necessary for trainers to offer better quality and durability. 

IMPERATIVE makes efforts to incorporate recycled materials. Their insoles are made from recycled sebs gel, a flexible and elastic material commonly used to manufacture shoe insoles, from which the plasticisers have been removed, replacing it with algae. 

All the material in their shoes has been certified under REACH, the EU’s main regulation to protect human health and the environment from the risks that chemicals can pose. 

In addition, the factory uses more than 80% renewable energy for the production process, and all its packaging is environmentally friendly.

IMPERATIVE shoes are made in one piece, without toe caps and with minimal stitching. There is no metal or hardware. 

However, the shoes present certain challenges regarding recycling due to the variety of materials used in their manufacture. The shoes are composed of cotton, polyester, rubber, nylon and polyurethane, making them difficult to break down and recycle.

IMPERATIVE stands out for its short and efficient production chain, as it manufactures its shoes in Alicante, less than 70 kilometres from its main warehouse. In this way, they significantly reduce the carbon emissions associated with transport.

IMPERATIVE declares itself as a vegan brand. They use animal-free materials in the manufacture of their shoes.
