WORKING CONDITIONS & LIVING WAGES 

Givn Berlin states that their production partners ensure safe working conditions, fair pay, holiday entitlement, and continued sick pay for all employees. They also explain that as all their products are manufactured in Europe, they benefit from direct communication with their partners and can regularly and easily gain a personal impression of local conditions. 

The majority of their facilities are Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified, and the factory in Turkey is a member of SEDEX too. GOTS ensures compliance with social criteria, guaranteeing more ethical production.

Givn Berlin mostly uses plant-based materials; both natural and man-made. Lyocell, Modal, and Ecovero are all man-made materials, produced from wood pulp. Givn Berlin explain that soy silk is a vegan silk alterative, made from soy protein. They state that this material is very durable and has a soft texture and shimmering sheen, like conventional silk. 

Cotton and linen are both natural materials. Organic cotton is preferable to conventional cotton, as it is grown without harmful chemicals or pesticides, with less water, and under better conditions. Linen is also a more sustainable choice, as the flax plant requires minimal input to flourish, and the fabric itself is known for its durability. 

Where plastic-based, synthetic materials are used, it is always in small quantities to help improve the performance of certain garments. 

PACKAGING 

Givn Berlin states that they use plastic-free packaging for e‑commerce shipping, and their price tags and boxes are made from recycled materials. They also aim to reuse their boxes as often as possible. To reduce paper consumption, they send invoices via email rather than printing them. 

WATER USAGE & CHEMICALS

Givn Berlin uses Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified organic cotton for some of their products. Organic cotton requires less water to produce, and is grown without harmful chemicals or pesticides. 

CIRCULAR PRODUCT DESIGN 

Unfortunately, Givn Berlin’s products are sometimes material blends. This means that they will be harder to recycle at the end of their lifespan, and therefore more likely to generate waste. 

CIRCULAR BUSINESS MODELS 

Givn Berlin encourages consumers to send their old Givn pieces back so that they can be resold in the Givn Secondhand Shop. This initiative helps to give their unwanted clothes a new life!

Givn Berlin’s headquarters are located in Berlin. Here they also have a concept store, where they offer a click and collect service which helps to reduce transportation emissions. The brand also offers worldwide shipping. 

TRANSPORTATION 

Givn ships their e‑commerce through DHL Go Green, which they state is climate neutral. This therefore helps to reduce their transportation-related emissions. 

They also aim to reduce the number of returns they receive, as they recognise that these have a significant environmental impact. They do this by charging a flat rate and providing size charts to help ensure your new purchase will fit properly.

Givn Berlin explains that because of their love for the animal world, they mostly avoid animal-derived materials and many of their products are certified PETA approved vegan. Their jumpers sometimes contain wool, but this is normally recycled.

Givn Berlin states that it is important to them that their collections can be worn individually and unisex, and also cater to special sizes, so that they can bring lasting joy to their growing customer base without excluding anyone.

As Givn Berlin’s products are not made to order, there is a sales page on their website. They release Fall/​Winter and Spring/​Summer collections each year.

Each product page states what material the item is made from, and where it was made. This ensures that you’ll always know where your specific purchase was produced.

Although Givn Berlin does not publish an annual report on the social or environmental aspects of their brand, they do aim to be transparent about their processes. They provide information about all of their production partners on their website to help connect consumers to the manufacturing of their clothes. This information includes their locations and what certifications they have.
