The EVS women’s collection is manufactured in Portugal. The manufacturer in Portugal must comply with the strict labour rules and legislation of the European Union. This allows us to assume that good social conditions prevail here.
The men’s shoes, trainers, hiking boots and safety shoes are made by the company Mangul Jaya in Indonesia. EVS has an established and long-term partnership with this manufacturer. This assures the brand that workers are paid fair wages and work in safe, ethical conditions. Unfortunately, we cannot fully verify this at COSH! because the company does not have independent certificates for working conditions.
EVS shoes are made of high-tech materials. This ensures that the shoes are of good quality, which extends their lifespan. Unfortunately, this also means that synthetic materials are mixed together, making the shoes harder to recycle after use. With shoes, however, this is often the case because they consist of many different parts.
EVS puts an emphasis on quality here. The different synthetic materials are developed to give unique properties to the shoe. By mixing cotton with synthetic materials, EVS ensures that the shoes are breathable, waterproof, anti-odour and insulating.
Most of the materials EVS uses are produced in Switzerland. The manufacturer is supposedly Bluesign-certified. This means that the use of chemicals in the production process is audited. The restriction on the use of chemicals ensures both that there is no environmental pollution and that the final product is safe.
EVS unfortunately does not fare so well in terms of circularity. By using blends of synthetic materials, their products are difficult to recycle. Even when organic cotton is used, the product is not biodegradable as it is always blended with synthetic materials. As also mentioned previously, this is often the case with shoes because they are always made up of many different parts.
EVS does not have a short chain, even if part of the production is done in Portugal. Because part of the collection is produced in Indonesia, this increases the length of the supply chain. The origin of the materials also plays a role here, some fabrics are produced in Switzerland but as information is not given on all materials, it is difficult to estimate exactly how long the supply chain is.
As the name suggests, this brand is completely vegan! This is even certified by both The Vegan Society and PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).
By using technological materials, EVS guarantees that the shoes are high-quality and long-lasting. The brand even claims the shoes are more “durable” than their leather counterparts. The shoes protect and support your feet in all conditions as the designs are suitable for all occasions. The EVS collection is elegant and stylish, whether it is a cute boot or a sturdy walking shoe. You can even find vegan safety shoes in the collection.
EVS does list the countries in which the collection is produced, but unfortunately gives little information about the manufacturers themselves. As a result, COSH! gives them a very low score on transparency.
