We are unaware of the sourcing of these materials, or their sustainable nature. However, considering the artistic, handmade nature of these products, we can safely assume that the materials do not end up in landfills. We would, however, also love to know more regarding the packaging materials.

The brand uses a lot of plexiglass and metals, which are circular, recyclable materials. We are unaware whether the artist provides repair services, but the products can be easily disassembled and recycled. 

The brand is located and conducts production in Belgium. We are unaware of the sourcing of the materials, which makes the real length of the supply chain unverifiable. We also do not know their transportation methods, which makes a huge difference on their footprint regardless of the length of the chain. 

The artist uses a variety of materials, one of which is feathers. Hence, the jewellery cannot be considered vegan, and we are unaware of the ethical sourcing of the feathers.

Diederick Van Hovell’s jewellery designs are art pieces, and art does not follow trends. The workshops also provide consumers with the opportunity to make their own jewellery to their liking, which ensures that the pieces will be in use for a very long time before being discarded or recycled. 

The artist’s website does not offer much transparency regarding the jewellery, except for the materiality. We would love to see more information regarding the sourcing of these materials, packaging materials, and transportation.
