Chlues

Chlues’ clothing is entirely produced in Portugal. The founder, Chloë, has visited the production site twice this year (2024) to oversee sample discussions and adjustments. The producer holds GOTS, BCI, GRS certifications, and is SMETA audited, ensuring ethical and sustainability conscious production standards. All cotton is also sourced from Portugal, making sure the entire supply chain aligns with strict EU regulations on ethical workplace practices. Additionally, Chlues donates 2€ from every purchase to children to support their battle against brain cancer.

Chlues utilizes organic cotton material from a GOTS and BCI-certified producer, ensuring the environmentally responsible production of their fabrics. The garments feature a special bio-coating for anti-stain properties. As a startup, they currently (2024) still use plastic packaging, with hopes to transition to recycled options as finances allow. The brand also incorporates responsible materials such as cotton labels. Currently, Chlues is exploring enhanced sustainability measures as they grow, with a commitment to increasing eco-friendly practices over time.

Chlues designs children’s clothing with longevity in mind, utilizing natural, biodegradable materials that enhance the potential for circularity. While their garments are durable and designed to maximize usability, Chlues has yet to implement a formal circular business model like a secondhand platform or resale system. Such a system would be very beneficial for the childrens’ clothing industry. 

Chlues operates out of Antwerp, Belgium, where it designs its collections that are then produced entirely in Portugal. This geographical closeness between the design headquarters and production facilities allows for a relatively short supply chain, enhancing oversight and reducing transit distances. The cotton used in their products is also sourced from Portugal, further minimizing transportation distances. However, transportation methods include both air and land, which may impact their environmental footprint. 

The brand does not use any animal materials, hence making it a Vegan brand.

Chlues adopts a slow fashion ethos by designing unisex, oversized children’s clothing intended to adapt to a child’s growth over several years. This ageless fit ensures garments remain functional for extended periods, reducing the need for frequent replacements. The use of stain-repellent coatings and their ​“Emergency stain help” guide demonstrates a commitment to extending the lifespan of each item. Their approach aligns with sustainable fashion principles by emphasizing quality, durability, and the adaptability of garments to suit prolonged usage.
