On Saturday, 21 March, you can visit the Goudsmidatelier in Ghent for a lost-wax workshop!
Practical information
- What will you make? A wax model of a ring, entirely according to your own design, or step by step according to a provided example.
- When? On Saturday, 21st of March, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
- Where? At the Goudsmidatelier in Ghent (Drongensesteenweg).
What will you learn during this workshop?
During this 3‑hour workshop, you will learn the basics of the lost wax technique. You will learn how to saw and file wax, and you will be taught all the techniques you need to create the ring you want, including adding texture, making your ring mirror-smooth, melting, carving, engraving, and creating beads. Anything is possible.
Who is it for?
This workshop is for anyone aged 16 and over. No experience is necessary, but people who are training to be goldsmiths and want to expand their knowledge are also welcome. Each participant can work at their own level, and the group is small enough to allow for individual guidance on your own design.
Important:
This workshop does not include the cost of casting your ring in silver (or gold). You will make your piece of jewellery in wax, after which the cost of casting it in silver will be calculated based on its weight. On average, this will be around £30, but this obviously depends on the design you choose. During previous workshops, the cost of a ring varied between £15 and £55.
You will be able to collect your finished ring from the studio a few weeks later.
