Workshop: Ton-sur-Ton Embroidery
2.5‑hour free embroidery workshop in Amsterdam
During this 2.5‑hour workshop, you’ll discover the refined world of ton-sur-ton embroidery — a technique that uses different shades of the same colour to create a subtle and elegant effect.
You’ll choose from a beautiful selection of ecological embroidery fabrics or Aida fabrics in various colours. Matching DMC embroidery threads (and other yarns) in ton-sur-ton shades are provided, resulting in a harmonious composition where colour and texture blend beautifully.
You’re free to create your own design, but we’ll be happy to guide you. There are also inspiring sample patterns available so you can get started right away. We’ll help you transfer your design onto the fabric and advise you on suitable stitches and shapes.
During the session, we’ll also give a short introduction to Munsell’s colour theory and explain how to identify different shades of a single colour.
We’ll use free embroidery techniques such as the satin stitch — perfect for filling shapes or creating lines. You’ll make a lovely start on your piece during the workshop, and since embroidery takes time, you can take your project home to finish it at your own pace.
