In this 2.5‑hour workshop, you’ll explore the beauty of ton-sur-ton embroidery — a technique that layers subtle shades of the same color for a refined and elegant effect.
You’ll begin by choosing a color from our ecological embroidery canvas series, each paired with matching DMC embroidery floss (and other threads) in beautiful tone-on-tone combinations. The focus is on texture and layering, letting color and stitch work together in harmony.
You’re welcome to create your own pattern or idea, but we’re also happy to help you get started. We have a selection of inspiring samples on hand, and we’ll guide you in sketching your design onto the fabric and planning your stitches.
During the session we will have an intro about monochrome textile work and information about Munsell’s color theory that will help you choose the right colors and threads for your work.
We’ll use freehand embroidery techniques, focusing on stitches like satin stitch —perfect for filling shapes and creating flow. You’ll start your embroidery during the workshop and get plenty of support and feedback. Since embroidery is a slow and thoughtful craft, you may want to continue working on your piece at home afterwards.
