Stitch Your Way into a Cosy Winter
Always wanted to learn to sew but never quite taken the plunge? Muna, the café and second-hand shop in Amsterdam Nieuw-West, is hosting a free four-hour sewing afternoon for beginners as part of Klimaatweek (Climate Week). Step by step, participants turn a flat piece of fabric into a finished pair of pyjama bottoms, and they get to take them home afterwards.
The afternoon covers every stage: explanation, cutting, pinning, sewing and adding the elastic waistband. No experience is needed, and Muna provides the sewing machines, fabric and thread, so there’s nothing to bring. The workshop is taught in Dutch and has just eight places.
There’s something for younger visitors too. Children can go on a treasure hunt through the second-hand shop, and live music is in the works.
The workshop is the first half of a two-part Klimaatweek event. The second half is Muna’s Christmas film days on 25 and 26 December, with vintage Christmas films on screen. Guests are encouraged to come in their pyjamas, ideally the pair they sewed themselves.
Made possible by Klimaatweek and the Amsterdam Nieuw-West district.
