People wear clothes in all shapes, sizes, colours and textures. Something different for every part of the body. Sometimes people even want to look like other animals: leopard-print skirts, colourful collars and zebra prints. You name it, Homo sapiens will wear it.
The fact that we may have gone a little overboard in this regard is fascinating, but also problematic. Because people are always wanting a different fabric, a new style or a more original print. What’s ‘in’ and ‘out’ changes so quickly these days that we’ve come to call it fast fashion.
But what effect does this endless stream of new clothes have on us human animals? And on the world around us?
Can we learn to appreciate the pieces of fabric we use to clothe our bodies once again, so that we’re less quick to throw them away? What actually happens to all those clothes we discard? And how can we become part of slow fashion, without looking any less fun, stylish or quirky in the process?
We’ll be discussing these questions – and many more – with you, alongside two sustainable fashion experts: Anna Roos van Wijngaarden and Megan de Klein.
