Kintsugi, literally translated as ‘golden joining’, is the traditional Japanese art of repairing broken pottery using glue mixed with gold powder. The break and the repair are not concealed but emphasised, allowing the break to tell its story. Beauty emerges from imperfection.
During this workshop, you’ll get to work with a kintsugi set in silver or gold. You’ll first consciously and mindfully repair something broken and transform it into a (re)newed piece for your home. In this way, you’ll highlight the imperfection of an object. It’s the perfect way to let go of a particular frustration, event or emotion and channel it into a beautiful result. It’s the perfect moment to reflect on the process, on the journey you’re on, and to see how something can grow into something beautiful.
Do I need creative talent?
You absolutely do not need any experience for this! Anyone can create a beautiful and unique piece without needing any talent.
Can I bring something of my own to repair?
If you have something at home that you’d like to repair, do bring it along! Bear in mind its size – the workshop lasts two hours and it might be easier to start with a smaller item if it’s your first time. Don’t have anything at home? Then we’ll provide objects that could do with a bit of love and need repairing.
Can I take my finished creation home straight away?
Uiteraard! Je krijgt jouw stuk mee naar huis om tentoon te stellen in je interieur, cadeau te doen aan iemand, of als herinnering aan het proces dat je net doorgemaakt hebt ;-)
Can children take part?
In principle, anyone aged 12 or over can take part.

The workshop will take place in the second building of Fonetik, located at 8 Korte Zoutstraat.
