According to Kontoor, the parent company, some manufacturing is owned, mostly in Latin America and Mexico, while roughly 70% of products are made by external partners. Named supplier regions include Mexico, China, Bangladesh and India, across a multi-tier chain (Tier 1 to Tier 3 yarn suppliers). Since these figures come from the parent group, they cover Wrangler and Lee together. 

Working Conditions & Living Wages

The parent-company Kontoor states it complies with the UN Guiding Principles, ILO conventions and OECD due diligence guidance and runs an audited Social Compliance Program. In 2024 it reports auditing 66% of Tier 1 and 80% of Tier 2 supplier facilities, and that 92% of in-scope suppliers had a worker well-being programme, up from 58% in 2023.

Packaging

The parent company uses forest-derived (paper) ticketing with an FSC preference, plus polybags, and runs six zero-waste distribution centres in North America. 
However, it remains unclear what packaging materials Wrangler actually uses, since the information describes Kontoor group practice.

Water Usage & Chemicals

Water is handled through the Indigood™ Program of Kontoor, the parent company. A foam-dyeing technology that, according to Kontoor, uses at least 90% less water than the usual way of dyeing denim blue. The programme is checked by independent auditors, and mills earn a level based on how much water they save.

In 2024, 30 mills took part:

• 5 mills hit Gold (over 90% water saved)
• 6 reached Silver (60 to 89%)
• 10 reached Bronze (30 to 59%)
• 9 were still below 30% but committed to improving

Together, Kontoor says these mills saved 1.3 billion litres of water in 2024, up from 0.9 billion in 2023.

Kontoor, as the parent group, has set a new water target: to save 8 billion litres from key suppliers in water-stressed areas between 2023 and 2030. 

Kontoor aims for at least 90% of chemicals to meet the ZDHC MRSL safety standard (a widely used list of substances that should be kept out of production). 

Circular Product Design

Wrangler Accelerating Circularity products with post-consumer recycled cotton, and upcycled denim collections with Beyond Retro, both launched in 2024. 

Kontoor, the parent company, is a member of the Accelerating Circularity nonprofit for textile-to-textile recycling.

Its ADM Policy states animals may not be slaughtered specifically for the group’s products (material must be a co-product), and it prohibits fur, Angora rabbit wool, exotic skins and CITES-listed species.

Wrangler makes denim, apparel, footwear and accessories for men, women and children, with a heritage focus on functional western-style clothing.

The parent company Kontoor published a 2024 Sustainability Report and Consolidated Performance Databook. However, it remains unclear which parts specifically apply to Wrangler. As a result, transparency at Wrangler level stays limited.
