WORKING CONDITIONS & LIVING WAGES
Production in Germany offers a number of clear advantages: higher social standards, legally regulated health and safety at work, fairer wages and strict requirements for working hours and safety conditions.
PURSIK.boxers works with a single, local sewing factory in Wassenberg, a women-run business. The co-operation is very personal and close, with direct exchange during the development and production processes.
The products are handmade in small quantities. It is an artisanal production. PURSIK.boxers produces externally, but regionally and more transparently.
Darja is in close, direct contact with the sewing factory, which enables good control over fairer working conditions. Regular face-to-face meetings are part of the development process.
The product design is deliberately inclusive – unisex, gender-neutral and designed for different body shapes. The company’s own sizing system (1−3) avoids traditional conventions such as ‘small’ or ‘large’. Diversity is also portrayed positively and valued in the brand identity.
MATERIALS
- Deadstock fabrics (mainly from previous shirt collections).
- Laundry elastic
- Polyester labels
PURSIK.boxers mainly uses deadstock fabrics from previous shirt collections, including cotton, linen and blends of both natural fibres. Find out more about whether deadstock is a sustainable solution for the fashion industry here.
PACKAGING
PURSIK.boxers uses plastic-free packaging. The products are wrapped in tissue paper and sent in recycled cardboard boxes.
WATER USAGE & CHEMICALS
PURSIK.boxers uses deadstock fabrics, which significantly reduces water consumption and the use of chemicals compared to virgin material, as no additional production is required for these fabrics. The materials are made from natural fibres such as cotton and linen, which reduces the risk of microplastics being released during washing.
The trousers are washed with a mild detergent and ironed before being sold, which indicates a more conscious approach to chemicals.
CIRCULAR PRODUCT DESIGN
PURSIK.boxers mainly uses deadstock fabrics from previous shirt collections, often from premium Italian weaving mills. These are made from natural fibres such as cotton, linen or a blend of both. Although these are not mono-materials, one clear advantage is that only plant-based fibres are combined – synthetic fibres are not mixed in. This means that the recyclability remains higher than would be the case with blends of natural and synthetic fibres.
The absence of buttons, the use of elasticated bands and the minimalist design mean that the products are generally easy to repair. A targeted circular design strategy (e.g. for easy disassembly) is not pursued, but local production in small batches and the processing of existing materials contribute to extending product utilisation.
CIRCULAR BUSINESS MODEL
The label does not offer an official take-back service for used products. However, there is the possibility of repair on request. Customers receive a €10 refund if they bring a pair of PURSIK trousers to the alteration centre. Alternatively, the brand refers customers to a local tailor in Düsseldorf.
PURSIK.boxers offers a repair service on request. The repair itself is not free, but customers receive a €10 refund if they take their trousers to an alteration centre. Darja can also refer customers directly to a local tailor in Düsseldorf, with whom she is in contact.
Other circular business models such as rental or resale are not currently offered. However, PURSIK.boxers is consciously focussing on longevity, small series and the conscious use of existing resources – aspects that contribute to extending the product’s lifespan.
