WORKING CONDITIONS & LIVING WAGES
Pitod is fully B Corporation® certified, which means that the company has been assessed against the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. B Corp™ certification is only awarded to companies that can demonstrate through a rigorous auditing process that they meet high standards in areas such as employee wellbeing, environmental awareness, customer focus and transparency. It serves as proof of more sustainable business practices and ethical behaviour.
Pitod uses products from Stanley/Stella, which are manufactured in Bangladesh. Stanley/Stella is characterised by the use of certified organic and recycled materials, strict tests for harmful substances, vegan products and committed memberships and cooperations aimed at improving social and ecological conditions in the fashion industry.
The textiles are printed locally in the UK, which offers benefits such as better control over labour conditions and shorter supply chains.
Pitod works with a small number of carefully selected partners who document their standards with sustainability reports and certifications such as GOTS and Oeko-Tex.
The company does not have its own production facilities and therefore relies on compliance with these external standards. There is no evidence of regular personal visits to suppliers, but third-party certifications and audits provide a degree of assurance.
Pitod’s products are industrially produced and then printed to order to avoid overproduction.
The brand supports social initiatives such as 1% for the Planet, through which it donates a percentage of its turnover to environmental organisations every year, and offsets its CO₂ emissions with Shopify Planet. Pitod is also planning a partnership with an organisation that supports the LGBTQIA+ community.
The brand attaches great importance to inclusivity, both in its external image and in its workforce. As a Living Wage Employer, Pitod pays a living wage and thus offers a fairer and more stable working environment.
The brand’s gender-neutral approach emphasises its commitment to celebrating diversity.
MATERIALS
- Organic cotton (GOTS-certified)
- Recycled polyester
- Biodegradable polymer and coffee grounds
Pitod mainly uses GOTS-certified organic cotton, which is grown without the use of synthetic pesticides or fertilisers. It also uses less water than conventional cotton. If you want to learn more about organic cotton, read our article.
Recycled polyester is only used to a small extent in the shorts.
PACKAGING
Cardboard boxes, paper bags and bags made from recycled plastic are used in e‑commerce.
The company switched all packaging to fully recyclable materials in 2024. Pitod uses materials such as kraft paper mailers and water-based inks, which are not only more environmentally friendly, but can also be easily disposed of or reused. In addition, Pitod has provided instructions on the correct disposal of packaging to make it easier for customers to handle it correctly. These measures are intended not only to reduce waste, but also to minimise the carbon footprint in the supply chain and promote circularity. The company relies on recognised sources such as the EPA Sustainable Packaging Stats to underpin the positive effects of these approaches.
WATER USAGE & CHEMICALS
Pitod uses GOTS-certified organic cotton, which uses less water than conventional cotton and requires no synthetic pesticides or fertilisers.
For printing, Kornit water colours and NeoPigment inks are used, which are OEKO-TEX® certified and have therefore been tested for harmful chemicals.
The brand is committed to further reducing polyester content (currently only in shorts), as this not only releases microplastics but also makes recycling more difficult in the form of mixed fibres.
CIRCULAR PRODUCT DESIGN
Pitod mainly produces from mono-materials, such as organic cotton, which improves the recyclability of the products as plant-based and synthetic materials are avoided in one product.
One exception is the shorts, which are made from a blend of cotton and 15% recycled polyester, which makes recycling more difficult.
It is possible to return unworn products under the right of return, which are then recycled.
CIRCULAR BUSINESS MODEL
Pitod does not offer a repair service.
A take-back service for used or worn clothing is not offered.
Pitod does not currently use any other circular business models such as rental, resale or an organised repair service that could extend the life of the products and reduce the amount of waste.
DISTANCE & COMPLEXITY OF THE SUPPLY CHAIN
- Wolverhampton, United Kingdom
- US
- Latvia
- Bangladesh (Stanley/Stella)
- The Pitod HQ is located in the United Kingdom.
The company co-operates with a limited number of partners and relies on the use of Stanley/Stella articles for its textile products. Around 90 % of these products are printed in the United Kingdom.
TRANSPORTATION
- Pitod purchases finished Stanley/Stella products, which are then transported to the UK and in a few cases to the US or Latvia for finishing and printing. The products are mainly transported by land. Only in exceptional cases – estimated at around 1% of all orders – are goods transported by air. However, these transports are compensated for by carbon offsetting measures.
- Pitod uses Shopify Planet to offset the estimated transport emissions by investing in carbon removal projects. Climate-neutral shipping methods are used to reduce the ecological footprint.
Pitod does not use any animal materials.
PRODUCT DESIGN
Pitod offers gender-neutral fashion for adults, including jumpers, polo shirts, T‑shirts, hoodies, jogging trousers, baseball caps and mobile phone covers.
The brand places particular emphasis on inclusivity, both in terms of presentation and product sizes. There is a wide selection of unisex designs that are suitable for all body shapes and genders. The collection is designed to be timeless and versatile, covering different styles without being pigeonholed into classic gender categories.
SLOW FASHION PROCESSES
Pitod has a signature collection that is maintained over time. New products or designs are added approximately every 7 – 8 months.
The collections are made to order, which means that each product is only manufactured after it has been ordered. This has the advantage that overproduction is avoided, which saves resources and reduces waste.
TRANSPARENCY ON PRODUCT
Pitod’s product pages display some basic information, including material specifications and an emphasis on vegan, ethically sourced materials. Social initiatives are also presented, such as the fact that five trees are planted for every product sold. There is no detailed traceability for individual products.
As Pitod uses Stanley/Stella’s finished products, the traceability of the products is limited. The brand relies on the certifications and information provided by this partner, which requires a certain degree of trust. Nevertheless, there is still a certain distance to the actual production, as this is not entirely under Pitod’s direct control.
TRANSPARENCY ON PROCESS
Pitod is fully B Corporation® certified. This means that the brand fulfils the highest standards in terms of social and environmental performance, transparency and responsibility.
Pitod provides basic information about the materials used, sustainability approaches and production partners on its website.
The company publishes an annual impact report that documents the social and environmental measures and reports transparently on progress and challenges. This report forms the basis for the public disclosures summarised on the sustainability page of the website.
