Nature Hommage maintains ethical working conditions and supports human rights, diversity and inclusiveness. The sportswear is designed in Sweden and made in Bali, Indonesia. The Indonesian government has granted the manufacturer an exemption because it complies with all regulations related to the treatment of workers, waste disposal and sanitation. Workers are paid more than the minimum wage and the manufacturer provides health insurance to all the workers and their families. It also provides them with a freshly made lunch every day and pays double for overtime.
The brand collaborates with Plastic Bank by making a donation for every single item of clothing they sell. Each donation enables 80 plastic bottles, that would otherwise have ended up in the ocean, to be recycled. Plastic Bank also fights poverty in countries such as Haiti and Indonesia.
These ocean-friendly workout clothes are made from Econyl, recycled nylon made in Italy. To add stretch, the Econyl is mixed with elastane. This elastane is made from recycled plastic, so Nature Hommage’s sportswear is actually made up from 100% recycled materials! Where does this recycled nylon come from? It is made from nylon waste that can be found in, for example, industrial waste, landfill waste and fishing nets taken from the sea. Nature Hommage’s clothes therefore help protect the oceans and are also very high-quality so they will last a long time. The unfortunate thing about this material though is that when you wash it, microplastics are released and end up back in the water.
Most of their clothes are made from Econyl, a material which is like Nylon and can be melted over and over again to be recycled into new clothes. Many of their leggings and tops, however, are about 80% Econyl and 20% elastane (made from recycled plastic). This means that the different fibres must first be separated from each other to be recycled, as the clothes are not mono material. The clothes are therefore difficult to recycle.
To avoid waste during manufacturing, Nature Hommage donates all leftover textile scraps to local non-profit organisations that turn them into sellable objects.
Production is not local so we cannot speak of short chain here. Although the clothes are designed in Europe and the materials are made in Europe, the clothes are assembled in Indonesia, a long way away.
All the clothes have a fairly basic design, usually in a single colour but sometimes they add a strip of colour to the side of the leggings. Everything is designed in earthy tones: green, brown, black and white. This gives the clothes a timeless and minimalist look. With an outfit from Nature Hommage, you won’t have to change your sports kit anytime soon.
Unfortunately, Nature Hommage is not that transparent. We could only give the brand 50% on this part as all we know about production is that it takes place in Bali, Indonesia, and that it is done in ethical working conditions. We know that the Econyl is from Italy, but again, no factory name is provided.
Conclusion
