For this collection the brand decided on a different material for crafting their MUSA undies. The brand decided to use PYRATEX® seacell 11 fabric, which is a blend of 20% seacell and 80% Tencel®, selected for its softness, good stretch, and substantial interlock knitting structure.
The seacell component, comprising 20% of the fabric, is a cellulosic fibre derived from Icelandic seaweed harvested using a more sustainable and selective process that allows the plants to regenerate. This fibre is carbon-neutral and produced in a closed-loop system that ensures no chemical waste is released. The seaweed’s beneficial properties are preserved within the fibre, even after multiple washes, contributing to the fabric’s sustainability and durability.
The remaining 80% of the fabric is Tencel®, a renewable, wood-based fibre produced in Austria under the Standard 100 OEKO-TEX certification. Tencel® is made from wood sourced from FSC® or PEFC™ certified forests and sustainably managed plantations that avoid the use of chemical fertilisers. The fibres are not only compostable but also fully biodegradable in both soil and marine environments, ensuring minimal environmental impact throughout their lifecycle.
Packaging
The brand uses 60% recycled materials for packaging, these materials are also biodegradable.
Each package contains a card with information and some kind words from the brand. The products are packed in tissue paper and closed with a sticker to ensure a safe arrival.
Water usage & chemicals
For the seacell collection the brand’s fabric supplier PYRATEX® uses reactive dyes for their superior durability and colourfastness, consuming 90% fewer chemicals than fully synthetic dyeing methods. The water used in the dyeing process is recycled, significantly minimising environmental impact. While reactive dyes require less water than natural dyes, seacell fabric also avoids chemical finishes to maintain the plant’s quality.
Circular product design
The fibres used for the Seacell Collection are compostable and fully biodegradable in soil and marine conditions, according to PYRATEX®.
Circular business models
The brand is working on creating options for their customers to recycle their products in the future.
NOTE: This lower score is normal for the type of products the brand makes. Since circular business models like rental or repair aren’t applicable for underwear.
