Working Conditions & living wages 

The production of LEM takes place exclusively in Georgia. One advantage of this local manufacturing approach is the short transport distances, which help reduce CO₂ emissions. Additionally, production is carried out by a small, dedicated team, ensuring transparency and control over working conditions. The close personal relationships with a limited number of suppliers and the use of local resources further enhance transparency and strengthen business relationships.

LEM works with deadstock, second-hand materials, and locally available fabrics. The brand’s sustainability strategy reflects a strong commitment to environmental and ethical awareness.
All products are handmade by three female employees or by a small team of shoemakers in a local workshop.
Since the entire production process takes place locally and the designer is directly involved, there is a high level of oversight regarding working conditions.
Fairer and safer working conditions are ensured through close collaboration within the small team.

LEM uses both natural and synthetic materials, including jacquard fabrics, artificial leather and leather that is a by-product of the food industry. 

Packaging 

Packaging within the supply chain is made from cellulose and recycled paper, while e‑commerce orders are delivered in cellulose fabric bags.

Water usage & chemicals 

When selecting materials, the brand consciously favours fabrics that use less water, second-hand materials and deadstock in order to conserve resources and reduce waste. 
The reuse of existing resources also minimises the energy-intensive processes of new production, which reduces the ecological footprint. 

Circular product design 

By focusing on upcycling, second-hand materials, and deadstock, LEM makes use of existing resources and minimises waste. However, this more sustainable material choice comes with the challenge that blended fibres are often used. This can make complete recyclability more difficult, as materials of different origins and compositions are combined.

LEM’s handmade products are designed for longevity and can be easily maintained thanks to an offered repair service. This focus on repairability promotes the circular economy and supports the brand’s more sustainable approach.
