Ethics
Jobags is the result of a meeting between activism and recycling. The designer, Joël Conte, uses “disposable” materials in order to create other more eco-responsible products. The accessories are made in Brussels in the De Welvaartkapoen workshop, a social reintegration workshop in Molenbeek.
Materials
At Jobags, the items are made from PVC tubes and tarpaulins. These advertising banners come from advertisements or cultural events in Brussels that Joël has recovered. You will find a collection made entirely from the BIFF banner (Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival). Some products are made from recycled bicycle inner tubes. The result is unique and quality upcycled products. You can also find upcycled jean bobs. Since the early ’90s, the designer has kept his jeans because nothing is thrown away, everything is transformed! The jeans have been sewn, patched, and assembled for the fisher hat / vissershoed (bob) collection. Each piece is unique, reversible, vintage and 100% upcycled.
The bags have 2 zipped pockets and an internal pocket for your laptop or tablet. There is also a waist belt to stabilise the bag on the move, perfect for walking or commuting. The PVC items are waterproof. Ideal for rainy days.
Circular Economy
Jobags is a circular brand. The materials used are harvested, recycled and upcycled. Joel recovers tarpaulins from past events. PVC is not a biodegradable material but it can be recycled again.
Supply chain
The brand has a short supply chain because the materials are all in Brussels or Belgium. Joel simply collects them, making long distances unnecessary.
Animal wellbeing
Vegans can rejoice because no animal substances are used in the creation of these articles. No leather is used, the items are made of PVC, denim, or bicycle parts.
Slow Fashion
The Jobags accessories are timeless and durable. You can keep them for a long time. What’s more, they are produced in small quantities. A good thing for the planet.
Transparency
The accessories are manufactured in Brussels in a reintegration workshop, located in Molenbeek. At COSH! the more precise the brand is about the place of production, the more clear information we can gather for consumers.
