PRODUCTION LOCATIONS
- Arnhem, Netherlands
WORKING CONDITIONS & WAGES
Chapauw produces exclusively in Arnhem, in the Modekwartier. This eliminates long transport routes.
The products are entirely handmade in the brand’s own studio, meaning there are no external production partners.
Chapauw sources materials from local donors, second-hand shops and the neighbourhood, thereby supporting a local circular economy.
MATERIALS
- Upcycled denim
- Leftover materials from local businesses
- Second-hand textiles from donations and circular streams
- Fabric scraps, back pockets and labels from old jeans
Chapauw uses local leftover materials, which is significantly more resource-efficient compared to new materials, as water, energy and chemicals are saved. In addition, upcycling reduces waste and CO₂ emissions.
PACKAGING
Previously used shipping boxes are reused as packaging.
WATER USE & CHEMICALS
Chapauw exclusively uses existing fabrics and local leftover materials, which significantly reduces water use compared to the production of new fibres.
No new dyeing, bleaching or printing processes are used, as the fabrics are processed in their original condition. This also means no additional chemicals are used.
CIRCULAR PRODUCT DESIGN
The brand exclusively uses upcycled and recycled materials, including deadstock textiles and donated fabrics. Individual fabrics may occasionally consist of material blends, which can make recycling more difficult.
All products are handmade and therefore easy to repair. Chanel Pauw also offers workshops in which she shows how clothing and accessories can be creatively repaired or redesigned, contributing to the circular economy.
Chapauw’s own fabric leftovers are also processed into new creations, meaning almost no waste is generated.
CIRCULAR BUSINESS MODEL
Repairs are carried out on request.
All products are handmade and therefore easier to repair. Founder Chanel Pauw actively promotes self-repair and creative reuse through her workshops, in which participants learn how to redesign old clothing or fabric scraps.
The entire brand concept is based on circularity, as only existing materials are used. In this way, Chapauw makes a significant contribution to extending product life cycles.
