About Companions conducts all of its production in 2 facilities in Lithuania, and one in Barcelos, Portugal. They work with small family businesses, with whom they have been cooperating for many years, and visiting yearly to develop a relationship based on trust.

This brand works with many GOTS certified suppliers which ensures the conscious nature of the textiles and chemicals used. Overall, they use organic cotton and conventional cotton, as well as linen, and some semi-synthetic materials such as Tencel Lyocell and EcoVero Viscose, both from the Lenzing group. The Lenzing group makes materials that are more sustainable and better for the environment as compared to their conventional alternatives. 

They use plastic free packaging made from recycled paper, and use carbon-neutral shipping within Germany. They are still working on green shipping methods abroad. 

This brand uses mostly natural materials which are easily biodegradable at the end of use. While their garments aren’t technically monomaterial, their use of synthetic fibres is kept to only the lining, which makes the garments easily recyclable later. 

Their products are manufactured exclusively in the EU, keeping the chain short. They also use green transportation methods within Germany, and are working on solutions for shipping abroad as well. 

While they do not outright state this, About Companions is essentially a vegan brand. They avoid animal derived products, even down to using alternatives for buttons made of shell.

The brand takes their model one step further by naming all their garments ​“Companions”, which adds a level of bonding between the consumer and the garment, making sure they treat the garment with more care. They have a free repair system in place as well, so customers can keep their garments in use for as long as possible. The Companions are also timeless classic pieces that are beyond trends and can be worn indoors as well as outdoors. With this in mind the garments are designed carefully with durable materials. The garments are also the definition of slow fashion, the garment descriptions stating how long each garment took to make, and how many hands went into the making of it.

About Companions is a champion for transparency, providing details of their materials, production, etc. They even provide a picture of the hand tag on their website, so the consumer knows exactly what they are getting before they buy it. The brand provided COSH! with internal information, aiding us to verify their sustainability practices and GOTS certifications.
