A Perfect Jane

A Perfect Jane shoes are designed in The Netherlands by a professional and very passionate shoe designer. Then, the shoes are produced in Portugal, in a family owned business located in the heart of the shoe industry in Porto, where they have been making shoes for generations.

Building a personal relationship with their manufacturers and suppliers is very important to them, that is why they produce in Europe.

They also want to make sure the employees making their vegan boots are working under good circumstances, so they visit them 2 or 3 times a year.

A Perfect Jane mission is to create beautiful vegan womens boots with as many sustainable materials as possible. They are following the innovations on foot and are dedicated on improving their sustainability in each new collection. 

In their collection, they use the plant based vegan apple leather, which is produced by using fiber derived as residual from the industrial processing of apples. They recover the industrial waste of the apple juice industry and transform it into new raw material. 

But they also use synthetic materials. Their breathable linings are made of corn in combination with recycled PET. And their outsoles are made of a high quality recycled rubber.

Finally, for their insoles they use natural cork. The big advantage of using cork insoles, is that cork is breathable, odor resistant and molds to the shape of your feet.

Their target for the future is to develop a 100% circular product, and they have made the first step. 

Using natural waste, they substitute other raw materials of chemical origin in the product, lowering emissions and energy consumption through the entire production chain. 

However, A Perfect Jane still needs to make efforts to improve circularity. Although some of the materials they use are technically biodegradable, they still mix these materials with plastic-based linings and outsoles, which makes it difficult to recycle them at the end of the product’s life.

The brand is located in the Netherlands, and its production is in Portugal.

Producing in Europe means they can closely work with the factory in the production process and do the quality checks themselves. This is something that COSH! really appreciates! 

However, it is not clear where the materials are sourced from. As rubber production is often bases in Asia, we cannot be sure that the brand has a short supply chain.
