Looking for a retro cardigan or blouse, a 40's inspired dress or an original pair of pants with wide legs? Then SeventyOne is the brand for you. The brand dreams of dressing retro lovers from all countries in an original and conscious way and can be found in four of SeventyOne's own boutiques in Belgium.
In 2020, SeventyOne turned to COSH! to guide them towards a sustainable collection of their own. Together with Niki, founder of COSH!, they discussed the best practices. The brands' clothing that is now in stores, is the first result of this consultancy!
The materials that SeventyOne uses are unfortunately not all natural yet, but the brand already made big steps towards a more sustainable approach. For example, SeventyOne's knitwear line consists of 100% GOTS certified cotton. The retro cardigans with buttons are made in Turkey and are available in four different colors. Thanks to its timeless design, the collection is not seasonal and is not a part of the sale racks. As a result, the brand combats overstock.
For dresses and pantaloons, the brand already experimented with different sustainable materials such as Lyocell and Tencel. Unfortunately, these available fabric options were still too fluid to achieve a real retro look and feel. The clothing brand therefore deliberately opted for a blend with polyester. On the other hand, a circular program has been developed whereby these dresses and pantaloons retain their value and can be sold back to SeventyOne. These items are then offered again as resale items in the same boutique. This creates an alternative sustainable model for the SeventyOne brand.
All retro clothing is produced under fair working conditions and with respect for people and the environment. The knitwear is produced in GOTS certified factories in Turkey and thanks to their resale option, the brand contributes to a circular economy!
To keep the garments in the circuit for as long as possible, SeventyOne offers a resale option. Do you have a retro dress in your closet that you no longer wear? Then you can bring it into one of their boutiques or send it by mail. In return you will receive a voucher that you can spend at one of the four SeventyOne stores. The returned garments are resold in the resale department store. This way, your second-hand piece effortlessly gets a second life and you can shop with a voucher! Nothing but benefits, right?
