Lunacopine is headquartered in France. The menstrual cups are distributed by a French company in the Bordeaux region, Bivea Medical. Production takes place at the brand’s Finnish factory. Since both countries are covered by European labor laws, we assume good working conditions in the production and distribution of Lunacopine! 

The brand wants to give all women the opportunity to free themselves from the difficulties associated with their periods. Education, according to Lunacopine, is the answer. They therefore help people around the world gain access to knowledge, and spread the message that menstruation is not a shame. In this way, they break taboos and normalize conversations so women can unleash their true power. 

Lunacopine partners with some amazing organizations to be able to give vulnerable people access to cups and proper hygiene. For example, the brand has partnered with Planned Parenthood since 2016, participating in online fundraising events, educational campaigns and the distribution of Menstrual Cup Discovery Kits. The brand itself has already donated more than 30,000 Lunacopine menstrual cups to various organizations. 

Lunacopine menstrual cups are made of medical grade silicone. The cups contain no phthalates, bisphenol or heavy metals. 

The FDA (United States Food and Drug Administration) has approved Lunacopine and the medical grade silicone the brand uses. It is hypoallergenic, non-toxic, durable and harmless to human tissue.

The menstrual cup concept helps reduce waste by eliminating the need to throw away tampons and pads every time. Lunacopine has already achieved over a billion fewer disposable menstrual products ending up in landfills and oceans. 

At Lunacopine, they don’t take the earth for granted, so they are determined to leave it better than we found it. That’s why the menstrual cup is reusable and recyclable. They also use waste-free packaging and renewable energy. The packaging material is 100% recyclable and compostable and consists of corrugated cardboard, cellulose plastic, cardboard and paper stickers. So the menstrual cups create no waste! Even the transport bags for the cups are made of recycled cotton.

The cups are produced in Finland and then distributed from France, making the company’s chain relatively short. However, it is unclear where the product’s silicone comes from. 

The Lunacopine cup is certified vegan by the Vegan Society! The Vegan Society is the oldest vegan organization in the world. The organization states that ​“veganism is a way of life that seeks to eliminate as far as possible all forms of exploitation and cruelty toward animals for food, clothing or any other purpose.” Accordingly, Lunacopine’s team ensures that the cup is made without animal products and is not tested on animals.

With the menstrual cup, you can go for years. Some women do 10 years with the same cup! So the product lasts a very long time and only needs to be replaced when there are cracks or holes in it. This makes the product inexpensive: Even if you buy a new cup every 5 years, you will be a lot cheaper than if you had to buy tampons all the time! By the way, the cup comes in two sizes.

On its mission to create positive change by ensuring that girls and women everywhere have a healthy, sustainable and affordable option for their menstrual hygiene, the brand is clear. But little is reported on the brand’s suppliers. So there are still some gains to be made in this area.
