A fan of streetwear style? Iriedaily is the brand for you. This Berlin–based clothing brand does not distinguish between men and women (except for the fit) so you’ll be able to match all your hipster friends!
Iriedaily has been a part of the Fair Wear Foundation since 2016. Just one year later, they were awarded Leader status, meaning the brand had taken steps in the field of fair trade and that the majority of their collection was produced in a fair and humane way. Iriedaily doesn’t just rely on the Fair Wear Foundation’s independent audits but also regularly visits its manufacturers. They even filmed one of these visits in 2021 so you can have a look behind the scenes.
Iriedaily works regularly with manufacturers both in Portugal and China. Currently, about 55% of their production (the jackets, shirts, trousers and accessories) takes place in China.
Although Iriedaily is not yet a perfectly sustainable brand, it is well aware of this and is taking steps in the right direction. Every year, Iriedaily looks for more sustainable ways to produce their clothing. For example, by 2022, 86% of their collection will be made from sustainable materials. These include organic cotton, recycled polyester and nylon, hemp, Lenzing Ecovero Viscose and Tencel. They are also increasingly using sustainable materials, such as cork, for their accessories.
These materials are also certified as most of the manufacturers that Iriedaily works with have obtained the GOTS label. This label is a guarantee that no harmful chemicals have been used throughout the process and that organic cotton has been used. It also verifies the working conditions of the manufacturer.
Iriedaily is making efforts to close the loop. They use recycled polyester made from PET bottles and plastic found in the ocean and on beaches. They also make polyester from old clothes or pre-consumer textile waste. Their recycled nylon is produced from processing waste, ensuring that raw materials such as oil remain in the cycle.
However, wearing and washing synthetic clothing made from materials, such as recycled polyester or nylon, does release microplastics into the environment. In fact, it would appear to happen even more with recycled fabrics because the textile fibres are shorter so come off more easily. Iriedaily does try to mitigate this by selling special laundry bags for their polyester clothes to be washed in. They also organise clean-up campaigns to clear beaches of plastic.
Iriedaily is also circular through its use of natural materials. Clothes made entirely from natural materials, such as cotton, hemp and viscose, are biodegradable.
Iriedaily gets its clothes manufactured in Portugal and China so does not have a short chain. However, they are in close contact with their manufacturers, reducing the length of their supply chain.
Iriedaily’s collection is for the most part vegan. The label indicates whether or not an item is vegan and certified by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals)!
Iriedaily does not follow fast changing trends but chooses to release a new collection every 6 months. With their androgynous style, these collections feature streetwear, sportswear and street style, with touches of boho casual.
The Iriedaily website lists information about the different manufacturers, as well as information about each item of clothing. Their product pages show where each garment is made, what materials it is made of and whether it is vegan and/or organic.
