How sustainable is Toad&Co?

Toad & Co is a Cali­for­nia-based fas­hi­on brand for men and women. As a mem­ber of 1% for the pla­netm, the brand is transpa­rent about mate­ri­al use and main­ly uses sustai­na­ble mate­ri­als, such as 100% orga­nic cot­ton, ten­cel, hemp and recy­cled fibers. But not all of its mate­ri­als are sustai­na­ble. The company’s goal is to con­vert all syn­the­tics to 100% recy­cled by 2025 and cer­ti­fy all wool via the Res­pon­si­ble Wool Standard by 2024. The wool has alrea­dy been appro­ved by Oeko-Tex and Toad & Co com­mu­ni­ca­tes that it’s non-mulesed. 

The Cali­for­ni­an brand offers cus­to­mers a sustai­na­ble ship­ping method and uses recy­cled and recy­cla­ble mate­ri­als in all of its pack­a­ging. On top of that, Toad & Co have a nice gua­ran­tee poli­cy: If you don’t get a com­pli­ment after wea­ring it three times, or if you find some­thing wrong, the com­pa­ny will take the gar­ment back and make it right. There’s a Code of Con­duct in pla­ce, but it’s unclear to which extent it is upheld throug­hout the sup­ply chain and whe­re the fac­to­ries are loca­ted. Obvious­ly, the inten­ti­on to do the right thing is the­re, but a litt­le more transpa­ren­cy is nee­ded befo­re we can recom­mend Toad & Co as a sustai­na­ble alternative.
