Osprey is an Ame­ri­can back­pack brand that was foun­ded in Cali­for­nia in 1974. The brand claims that sustai­na­bi­li­ty is of para­mount impor­tan­ce, but doesn’t publish a sustai­na­bi­li­ty report and pro­vi­des litt­le to no infor­ma­ti­on on its web­si­te. On the ups­i­de, Osprey does offer a life­ti­me war­ran­ty and encou­ra­ges reu­se of its backpacks. 

The com­pa­ny is not transpa­rent about its sup­ply chain, mate­ri­al use and mate­ri­al ori­gins. It uses the standards of the Ethi­cal Tra­ding Ini­ti­a­ti­ve for its Code of Con­duct, but it’s not clear to what extent employ­ee rights, such as free­dom of asso­ci­a­ti­on, col­lec­ti­ve bar­gai­ning and paying a living wage, are upheld throug­hout its sup­ply chain.
