Osprey is an Ame­ri­can back­pack brand that was foun­ded in Cali­for­nia in 1974. The brand claims that sus­tai­na­bi­li­ty is of para­mount impor­tance, but doesn’t publish a sus­tai­na­bi­li­ty report and pro­vides lit­tle to no infor­ma­tion on its web­site. On the upside, Osprey does offer a life­time war­ran­ty and encou­rages reuse of its backpacks.

How sustainable is Osprey?

The com­pa­ny is not trans­pa­rent about its sup­ply chain, mate­rial use and mate­rial ori­gins. It uses the stan­dards of the Ethi­cal Tra­ding Ini­tia­tive for its Code of Conduct, but it’s not clear to what extent employee rights, such as free­dom of asso­cia­tion, col­lec­tive bar­gai­ning and paying a living wage, are upheld throu­ghout its sup­ply chain.
