In a small house, formerly a cafe, in the suburbs of Bruges, Dominique ‘Mien’ Vieren makes, restores and transforms handbags in her studio Mien Kaba. Surrounded by pieces of leather and inspired by her own creations and vintage pieces, Dominique brings her bags to life through her impressive craftsmanship.
Mien Kaba has got the Handmade in Belgium and Handmade in Bruges labels which Dominique is very proud of, as well as being a recognised craftsman. If you are interested, make an appointment and work out with Dominique what you want your forever bag to look like – all bags are made to order. Alternatively, if you have an old handbag you would like to repair or transform, Dominique is the woman for you.
Please respect Dominique’s time however. As an independent crafter, she lives off making and selling handbags so cannot afford for her studio to be treated like a museum rather than a shop. We wholeheartedly agree that Dominique is a fascinating woman and that anyone in their right mind would want to spend time with her, but please only do so if you are planning on ordering something.
If you would like to find out more about Mien Kaba, check out the Mien Kaba brand page where we go into detail about the different types of leather used as well as Dominique’s incredible craftsmanship.
