Soft Rebels

Soft Rebels is head­quar­te­red near Aar­hus, Den­mark. The clo­thes are pro­du­ced in Chi­na. The pro­du­cer is said to be a mem­ber of BSCI, an orga­ni­sa­ti­on that helps com­pa­nies pro­du­ce more ethically.

Soft Rebels did sign the Danish Fashion Ethi­cal Char­ter (DFEC). This is an agree­ment bet­ween seve­ral Danish com­pa­nies in the fashion sec­tor to repre­sent more diver­si­ty and inclu­si­ve­ness. This main­ly invol­ves the visu­al repre­sen­ta­ti­on of the brand and the health of fashion models.

The Soft Rebels coll­ec­tion con­sists of dif­fe­rent mate­ri­als. Part of the coll­ec­tion is made of less sus­tainable mate­ri­als such as poly­es­ter, poly­ami­de and cot­ton.

But Soft Rebels also has a sus­tainable clot­hing coll­ec­tion under the name ECO­sis­ti­ble made of Eco­vero vis­co­se and orga­nic cot­ton. The orga­nic cot­ton has the GOTS cer­ti­fi­ca­te (Glo­bal Orga­nic Tex­ti­le Stan­dard). GOTS con­trols the use of che­mi­cals and working con­di­ti­ons in the pro­duc­tion of the orga­nic cot­ton. No che­mi­cals may be used in pro­duc­tion and the mate­ri­al uses less irri­ga­ti­on water than con­ven­tio­nal cotton.

Eco­vero vis­co­se is a sus­tainable vis­co­se made by the com­pa­ny Lenzing. It is made from FSC-cer­ti­fied wood pulp (Forest Ste­ward­ship Coun­cil). On top of that, the mate­ri­al also has the EU eco-label which veri­fies that the mate­ri­al is envi­ron­men­tal­ly friendly.

Soft Rebels’ ECO­sis­ti­ble coll­ec­tion is easier to recy­cle becau­se much of the clot­hing is made from a sin­gle mate­ri­al (mono­ma­te­ri­als). Clot­hing made of 100% orga­nic cot­ton is in theo­ry even biode­gra­da­ble!

Garm­ents con­sis­ting of a com­bi­na­ti­on of dif­fe­rent mate­ri­als are often much more dif­fi­cult to recy­cle and thus less cir­cu­lar. So check the label in your clot­hing to know what it’s made of.

Soft Rebels does not have a short sup­p­ly chain. Pro­duc­tion takes place in Chi­na, making the clo­thes tra­vel a long distance to be sold in Europe.

Soft Rebel uses ani­mal mate­ri­als such as lamb­s­kin, shee­p’s wool and alpa­ca in their coll­ec­tion. Howe­ver, the brand pro­vi­des litt­le infor­ma­ti­on on the ori­gin of the­se mate­ri­als. As a result, COSH! can­not form a clear pic­tu­re of the ani­mal welfare.

The Soft Rebel coll­ec­tions con­sist of con­tem­po­ra­ry designs inspi­red by sea­so­nal trends and colour palet­tes. Soft Rebels is known for their signa­tu­re designs seen in their wide ran­ge of tops and dres­ses, com­bi­ned with clas­sic basics and soft knit­wear.

Soft Rebels pro­vi­des litt­le infor­ma­ti­on on their web­site about their methods, pro­duc­tion pro­ces­ses or mate­ri­als. This makes it dif­fi­cult to assess how ethi­cal, sus­tainable and ani­mal-fri­end­ly the brand is.
