Soft Rebels is headquartered near Aarhus, Denmark. The clothes are produced in China. The producer is said to be a member of BSCI, an organisation that helps companies produce more ethically.
Soft Rebels did sign the Danish Fashion Ethical Charter (DFEC). This is an agreement between several Danish companies in the fashion sector to represent more diversity and inclusiveness. This mainly involves the visual representation of the brand and the health of fashion models.
The Soft Rebels collection consists of different materials. Part of the collection is made of less sustainable materials such as polyester, polyamide and cotton.
But Soft Rebels also has a sustainable clothing collection under the name ECOsistible made of Ecovero viscose and organic cotton. The organic cotton has the GOTS certificate (Global Organic Textile Standard). GOTS controls the use of chemicals and working conditions in the production of the organic cotton. No chemicals may be used in production and the material uses less irrigation water than conventional cotton.
Ecovero viscose is a sustainable viscose made by the company Lenzing. It is made from FSC-certified wood pulp (Forest Stewardship Council). On top of that, the material also has the EU eco-label which verifies that the material is environmentally friendly.
Soft Rebels’ ECOsistible collection is easier to recycle because much of the clothing is made from a single material (monomaterials). Clothing made of 100% organic cotton is in theory even biodegradable!
Garments consisting of a combination of different materials are often much more difficult to recycle and thus less circular. So check the label in your clothing to know what it’s made of.
Soft Rebels does not have a short supply chain. Production takes place in China, making the clothes travel a long distance to be sold in Europe.
Soft Rebel uses animal materials such as lambskin, sheep’s wool and alpaca in their collection. However, the brand provides little information on the origin of these materials. As a result, COSH! cannot form a clear picture of the animal welfare.
The Soft Rebel collections consist of contemporary designs inspired by seasonal trends and colour palettes. Soft Rebels is known for their signature designs seen in their wide range of tops and dresses, combined with classic basics and soft knitwear.
Soft Rebels provides little information on their website about their methods, production processes or materials. This makes it difficult to assess how ethical, sustainable and animal-friendly the brand is.
