Osprey is an Ame­ri­can back­pack brand that was foun­ded in Cali­for­nia in 1974. The brand claims that sus­taina­bi­li­ty is of para­mount importance, but doesn’t publish a sus­taina­bi­li­ty report and pro­vi­des litt­le to no infor­ma­ti­on on its web­site. On the upsi­de, Osprey does offer a life­time war­ran­ty and encou­ra­ges reu­se of its backpacks. 

The com­pa­ny is not trans­pa­rent about its sup­p­ly chain, mate­ri­al use and mate­ri­al ori­g­ins. It uses the stan­dards of the Ethi­cal Tra­ding Initia­ti­ve for its Code of Con­duct, but it’s not clear to what ext­ent employee rights, such as free­dom of asso­cia­ti­on, coll­ec­ti­ve bar­gai­ning and pay­ing a living wage, are upheld throug­hout its sup­p­ly chain.
