Osprey is an Ame­ri­can back­pack brand that was foun­ded in Cali­for­nia in 1974. The brand claims that sus­tai­na­bi­lity is of para­mount impor­tan­ce, but doesn’t publish a sus­tai­na­bi­lity report and pro­vi­des little to no infor­ma­tion on its web­si­te. On the upsi­de, Osprey does offer a life­ti­me warranty and encou­ra­ges reuse of its backpacks. 

The com­pany is not trans­pa­rent about its supply chain, mate­rial use and mate­rial ori­gins. It uses the stan­dards of the Ethi­cal Tra­ding Initia­ti­ve for its Code of Con­duct, but it’s not clear to what extent emplo­yee rights, such as free­dom of asso­cia­tion, collec­ti­ve bar­gai­ning and paying a living wage, are upheld throughout its supply chain.
