A sustainable production process is a top priority at KSTMIZED. All clothing is entirely produced in Belgium. Jolien makes the patterns, prototypes and provides tailor-made items.
A social workplace in Mechelen called AMAi manufactures t‑shirts and jumpers. For other items, Jolien works closely with a Belgian seamstress.
KSTMIZED is the upcycling clothing brand of fashion designer Jolien Lauwers. The story began when Jolien used forgotten garments from her attic to create new designs. What started as an experiment quickly grew into a successful clothing brand of its own.
Materials: fabric surpluses and forgotten clothes
With KSTMIZED, Jolien wants to tackle the polluting fashion industry. The collections consist entirely of unique pieces of designer surplus fabric and forgotten clothes.
Jolien buys most of the surplus fabrics at The Fabric Sales in Rotselaar. They sell excess stock leftovers from leading designers and brands, such as Essentiel, Dries Van Noten, Christian Wijnants, Nathalie Vleeschouwer, and many others. Typically, these leftover fabrics would be destroyed. KSTMIZED!, on the other hand, provides new possibilities for the fabrics.
For the basics, Jolien sources from European sites that sell sustainable fabrics. In addition, recycled garments are sourced from her social media followers and customers. Jolien is always looking for fabrics that are as sustainable as possible. With recycled garments, this is a challenge, mainly due to a lack of sustainable materials used.
The collections of KSTMIZED are, of course, super circular, which will further continue throughout the business. At the moment, Jolien is in the process of improving and standardising clothing labels made from recycled materials to reusing packaging materials.
Slow Fashion
The designs by KSTMIZED are timeless and simple and are in line with the Slow Fashion principles. By combining the fabric surplus and recycled clothing, each garment is a bespoke and one-off piece.
KSTMIZED focuses on conscious power women who are looking for a sustainable, unique piece. Are you one of them? Then be sure to visit the webshop via the link below or book a private shopping session!
